I am currently majoring in a Bachelors in English, but the thing is attending an actual college campus is challenging because of money issues. i am not able to dorm at a different university either because financial aid does not cover dorms even in SUNY schools. A couple of people told me that I should complete my classes online, so I wanted your opinions on Phoenix. My boyfriend and several people have told me that in the end its not about the degree, but the skills you have. Do any of you guys agree or disagree?

I do not know anyone who has used University of Phoenix.

Lots of schools have online programs, though. I went to St. Louis University and they were rapidly expanding their online classes back when I went (08-11) and there were people in other states attending the online classes with me. Some people try to cruise through online classes and not participate, but, I got a lot of out them. Did all of the assigned readings and quizzes and discussions with the other students, etc. It was a good way to go.
Just saying that there are probably many other brick and mortor schools out there who now offer options for you, and I do agree that it's about the mind-expansion of taking the classes and learning the skills, rather than the specific school you go to.

Best of luck.

Don't bother with schools like the University of Phoenix, Strayer, ITT, etc. They are nothing but degree mills, meaning they'll take your money ans screw you over with a useless, worthless piece of paper.

I disagree. The skills you have will never get noticed if you don't have the credentials to get your foot in the door and show people said skills. I don't think that online universities will get nearly the same recognition as a standard school would. Have you looked at community colleges? Those would probably be a better bet than online. Also if you are having difficulty with finances you should talk to the school and see what options you have...depending on your grades and such you may be able to get room/board covered somewhere (or you could move in with like 8 roommates and pay next to nothing)

I could go on a rant about majoring in English too, but I'll save that one for another day!

The problem is I graduaed community college in 2012. I could look at Suny schools but again sending transcripts from my other college and university cost money. I recently live with my mom so she cut my allowance down because of the ssi to $200 a month. I feel like thats to little to get bhecause i have to pay phone bills, and other billws as well, and i n fact its too late to apply for a SUNY unicversity as well because th3ey have admissions critieria. I wish I knew of a SUNY school where they waive transcriot fees, and then sending my GEDE trqanscript also costs money , and takes about 4-6 weeks to mail to colleges of my choice.

Have you tried getting your official transcript sent to yourself, then photocopying those transcripts and sending to whatever institution yourself. I'm pretty sure most school admissions offices have email, so you could send those transcripts as a .pdf file.
