Does your country have an official world map projection for use in schools? The National Curriculum in England specified the then highly obscure Eckert IV projection in 1995. It is still rarely encountered outside of schools.

Until the late 1970s the Mercator and Molleweide projections were the most commonly encountered in British schools but there was no official projection. The highly controversial Peters projection was heavily promoted by 'progressives' who read New Internationalist and it achieved some popularity during the 1980s and early 1990s.

National Geographic has used the Winkel tripel projection since 1998.
