One of my teachers loves to drill to us the different learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.), but do our learning styles really fit well into those definitions?

I suppose I can't really speak to the learning styles of neurotypicals, but I think that all of those categorizations are pretty arbitrary and don't really reflect who a person is or how they learn. That being said, I do think it's important that people be able to recognize their own study habits and needs and be able to get help in a way that it helpful to them.

A good overview over different styles here: http://www.learning-styles-online.com/o ... /index.php

Personally I find that I am a mix; a bit of auditory, a bit of visual, a bit of solitary, a bit of verbal, with too many misses in each to say that I have one great strength. Of those 4 I think maybe auditory is in last place and verbal first, but it really is a mix depending on the situation and subject.
Sometimes I even find advantages to social learning as someone might ask a question or make a comment that helps me learn more or something I wouldn't have learned on my own.
