Because that seems to be quite the oxymoron.

I don't know if there is an Aspie fraternity, but maybe we should form one. Personally, I want to join the Delta Tau Chi fraternity.

Social fraternities aren't ideal, but professional fraternities could be worth looking into. I'm actually in one (name unimportant, yes, I'm excessively paranoid and needlessly so) and it has been helpful for me. Didn't even want to join at first, even though a friend I had kept telling me it was a great idea. Finally got effectively dragged to one of the rush events. This will be my fourth semester as an active brother.

This could all depend on the chapters at the college you are at, they can be pretty varied, but professional fraternities usually don't have as BS of a selection process. The one I'm in, as long as you meet the academic requirements (certain classes have to be completed or in-progress) and you don't have any notable negatives (known for cheating, that sort of thing) you are pretty much in. It isn't a popularity contest like some social fraternities / sororities seem to be. Professional fraternities also tend to be co-ed, another major difference.

I was inspired to write this thread because I have to walk by fraternity houses on my way to the bus or to the grocery store. Most of the time they leave people alone, but I guess they were drunk out on the porch yesterday and tried to heckle me and started saying stupid ass things like Borat impersonations with him speaking Spanish. I wondered why the hell I was even interested in joining one when I first came to college.

I sure wouldn't join one....even an aspie one.
Maybe a professional group for aspies....maybe.
I just don't like joining things.

For me, it would depend on the organization. In high school, the most memorable experience I had was when I was in Junior Achievement. It is an organization that teaches how a business is run, and members actually run a mock business and get paid for it. It was really fun.

I just wouldn't join the Omegas, with Greggie, Dougie, and some of the other Hitler youth.

Take a group trip to Amsterdam, where everybody visits the Red Light District?

I'll join, but I'll be taking a detour when everyone else goes to the red light district. If anyone finds me stumbling around like I'm out of my mind after that... I likely will be.

I've already told people that want to go to Amsterdam that if they want me to go, somebody has to keep track of my passport, my travelers checks, and quite possibly me as long as we're there.

This is why professional fraternities are good. They're generally co-ed. There might even be a professional fraternity that has a number of members with AS. Not aware of all of them, but looking for "appropriate" fields might help find more.

I'm in Phi Theta Kappa. It's the 2 year school version of Phi Beta Kappa. GPA of 3.75 required. From the meetings and events I've attended there's no BS and you can have an intellectual conversation with any of the members. I enjoy it. I don't get to as many meetings as I'd like.
