I am a high-school and college drop-out. I dropped out of high school because the experience bored me to tears. I was convinced that leaving high school, and taking the GED and ACT tests so I could enroll into college was the way to go. I tested above average in record times. I later dropped out of college because of the costs, and because I was offered computer-based graphic-design jobs (at the time, that paid quite well) that the college didn't even teach yet.

BUT....

I encourage anybody thinking about dropping out of either schools to decide and explain to themselves how they will probably be affected by not having the education that the schools offer. A song or a shrug won't work. I spent a year and a half jumping through the educational hoops just to do what I did. I would do it again because my target was enrolling in college where I spent two years. Others who think that they will simply "wing it" are deluding themselves.

My main point here really is to show that the education system is broken. I don't really think people should drop out of school, although sometimes I wonder why I stayed in school so long considering it was pretty rubbish for me and I learnt little compared to how much I learnt on my own.

I don't even have that many qualifications from it because I don't cope well in that kind of environment. In my opinion the education system needs to change before it's of value.

Have you ever heard of the Kids for Cash scandal? A judge was sending schoolkids to adult prison for things like sarcastic comments and parody facebook pages. Deprived the kids of the right to attorney... The schools knew what was going on... and they liked it.

Doesn't surprise me in the least! I'm guessing it was in America then.

Right now I am in College and currently I can no longer receive government funding for it and I am stuck with the rest which is about $25,000 and I don't know how I am going to pay for it. I was told in High School that everyone can afford college and that the government would help pay for it. I didn't learn that they would only cover part of the learning or that even when they were helping to pay for my schooling that I wouldn't be able to take certain classes without paying extra out of pocket. I agree with this video that we spend countless time in school learning the most useless things only to be screwed in real life when NONE of what we learned is practical. I don't need Quadratic equations in real life I don't need statistics or chemistry. I learned basics about the government, and how voting works but I didn't learn many things that would be nice to know at this stage of my life. Now I am stuck in a place where I can't afford to drop out and I can't afford to keep paying and I have no idea what I am going to do, but thank God I know algebra and the periodic table.
