What I want to know is why are they doing this? Maybe someone knows. What are the benfits for them. It took over 6 months for the initial testing from Dec until May. They worked with him once a week in May to do testing. Wrote IEP for purely bad behaved social boy, possible ADD/ADHD. The boy was getting D's and F's. Then 2013/2014 year I found that they were not following there own IEP and I felt that the diagnosis was wrong. We struggled through the school year making remarkable progress according to them. I heard about fights, my kid getting hurt, sent to the office, withholding recess, being ostracized by his teacher. Meaning the whole class couldn't do something if Josh screwed up again. So I asked for an IEE in Dec. in Mar. we got permission, then my mom died. In June I made an apt for Sept. (it takes two months to get in). We were diagnosed with Autism/Asperbergers. I had to take time to swallow diagnosis from late Sept til early Dec In Early Dec they received his evaluation and ideas for in the class room. I was told they wouldn't rewrite his IEP until May. Well wait a minute he has autism, he's getting d's and f's. So I stomped my feet again. We are reviewing the report Feb 23rd. In the meantime somebody read his IEP. They are now making test accomidations (pulling him and several others out to take tests). Last week they pulled him out and put him in a smaller English class with a tutor. (Why wasn't he in this before). He is still getting d's and f's and recess he getting along great (I found out yesterday that they have to put their heads down for recess cause its too cold to go outs side.) Its amazing on his in class work he is getting A's on his homework he's getting B's (they won't allow any homework to come home with him it has to be done at school - I have asked several times since Sept.) They are supposed to report to me on a weekly bases (they don't). I have repeatedly asked.

Oh and to top it all off they aren't paying the bill for his IEE because we didn't follow their protocol (their rules) because they forgot to give it to us in the letter that said who to go to (which I assumed it was a letter that they would pay for it). But they refuse to pay for it because he did not see a school psychologist because his drs are against seeing a school psychologist for testing.

So tell me why are they making this so hard. And yep I have an advocate, who can not recommend anything for the classroom, who suggested I put him on meds, who suggested a social group (not a bad idea), who suggested sending him to a school over an hour away that deals with kids with social problems (and he is not bad at all and acts pretty much like a normal kid that forgets to raise his hand and blurts out answers) oh ya and she also recommended paying the bill so this all goes away.....

So I am looking for someone to give me ideas for the classroom because they have never seen a kid with autism and only want to do the minimum. And can I take this whole thing to the ODE and will they look at all his records because I am tired of stomping my feet and they are only doing what I make them do! Oh and they are trying really really hard not to write that IEP for academics. Why?

Oh ya and I have MS - so I am forgetful, stress causes me problems - like not being able to walk, and I am so tired all the time, and this crap sucks the life out of me.

Thanks for your time and it just felt good to get it off my chest,

The friendly people at ODE - Ohio Department of Education (big guys) gave them a call and they are going to pay his bill.
So I need ideas to help him learn.

This school is really something else. Recently they asked if your child is gifted. They told us that they want to bring back gifted classes. They are not bringing them back. They just wanted the childrens names identified so they can claim that they have gifted children because they were rated an F on the State of Ohios report card for excellent schools and now that they have gifted children its a D. We are dealing with a political machine.
True Story.

I am so sorry for what is going on. I hate to see AS/HFA kids treated like this in schools...but even today it is still common to have things go the wrong way in a classroom for an AS student.
Isn't that ILLEGAL to not follow the IEP exactly what it says? Obviously the teachers only care about their paycheck. Over here in WA, teachers/case managers are required to follow the IEP. If it allows for extra time on a test, give him/her extra time on a test if he/she isn't finished. If it allows for an accommodated English class, it has to happen. I'm currently in high school and my IEP says I am allowed to take Study Skills, which allows me to get lots of my homework for the evening done in my 5th period, which starts around 12:25PM at my school. My accommodation is the same for next year as it is on my IEP.
Hard when you have to deal with a roller coaster of politicians for the schools. Like WA, Ohio is one of 46 states that is also doing Smarter Balanced/SBE national testing...which for the high school grades is now going to be a graduation requirement, and it starts in 3rd grade. That's what this whole Common Core thing is about...teach to and for the assessment, take a long online test, and then do it all over next year, again teaching right to the book, right to Common Core (which for many parents is confusing as it is) and back to testing.

Are the Ds/Fs due to behavior, or due to assignments? Both of those situations could be happening. I wish you the best of luck trying to deal with the school district.
And can you find another better advocate? Obviously the one you have is trying to put you (and your son) down rather than up/positive. :(
