I’m in my final year of my A levels and the pressure and stress of it all is making me even weirder and more emotional. Doesn’t help when I have a test nearly every day at school. i feel that’s its too much for me to handle sometimes and feel that I can not cope with it all because there is so much to do in such a short space of time. already under enough stress in everyday life.

I'm not stressed now because my first year doesn't count towards my degree and it's going well so far. But I'm sure I will be stressed next year and the year after. Don't worry about A levels though; as long as you revise, you'll be fine.

Hi Hattie,

I can really empathise because I had a breakdown after my A-levels (although I was also suffering from PTSD as I had recently escaped a very abusive home and was trying to recover from anorexia).

The main thing, as Sopho_Soph says is to revise as much as you can.

Do you have any support? It might be worth asking the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator at your school (or in your health authority if your school does not have one) if you can have some kind of support and an assessment.

It might be that you could get study help and extra time in exams etc. It might also be worth getting assessed for a specific learning difficulty.

I got really stressed with Uni and couldn't cope with the work - even though reading and spelling weren't really a problem. I then got assessed and found out that I was dyslexic and dyspraxic - which explained the difficulties I'd been having and enabled me to find strategies to deal with these difficulties.

This might not apply to you, of course, but it is certainly worth seeing your SEN Co-ordinator to see what support you can get.

I have been diagnosed with dyslexia from the age of 8. The problem is I don’t like people helping me as I like to be independent . I hate being given extra time as your on your own and no matter how long they give me I will never be able to spell some words. It’s more the basic worry and pressure and amount to cover that stressing me out. Having AS already makes me always stressed; exams just tip me over the edge.

I sometimes feel quite stressed when I have to revise for an exam AND do coursework, as I find it hard to prioritise. (This is GCSEs though)

Don't worry too much about you A-levels though. At least they're topics you actually WANT to do well in!

I almost nearly go insane every semester. I worry about not getting things done on time, but somehow I always manage to.

I'm in a huge hole right now with my school work and I have no idea how I'm going to catch up by the end of the semester. As a result I'm having a ton of anxiety attacks making it even more difficult to catch up. On top of that, I have the risk of loosing all my scholarships.

I did fine in high school, but I went totally insane when I went off to college. That had to do mostly with being on my own for the first time. In fact, going insane was what led me to discover I had AS, so it turned out to be for the better :) I can handle school, but I didn't realize how difficult it would be to add the stress of managing my own food and diet, meeting all new friends in a strange and very culturally different place, learning to deal with substance abuse which I had been completely sheltered from in high school, etc. etc. It's a big learning experience even for NT's, nevermind us!

I have alsways found English Literature quite difficult, and I was even considering dropping it at one point! (now I'm not going to drop it)

It is very hard compared to the other subjects because this is just in-depth and finding hidden meanings, rather than being just fact-based.

English is my most challenging subject for GCSE, but I just want to get a least a B in next year's exam and get it over and done with. I am actually quite good at English essays and subtle meanings, but I feel very hard-pressed to do it.
