I'm considering what my mom told me about taking a cooking course, and even finding a cooking job. The college program is designed to help people with high-functioning Autism and Asperger's gain work and living skills. At first I thought it was a bit crazy that she reached out to me about it. Why? I thought she always seen me as a more tech-oriented type. I didn't think I would learn cooking, let alone get a possible job doing it.

Is this just very weird, or am I being legit?

Are you interested in/do you enjoy cooking? It seems to me that that's the most important thing to consider in this scenario.

Never considered that I was interested in cooking, but my mom brought it up and it sounds like a good idea.

Cooks don't have to interact with customers. They hire someone else to do that.

I've seen places in which they just need to read paper slips and make the meals.

Sounds like it could be cool! One thing to look into is whether the program has a good track record for actually helping people get jobs after they graduate from the program. Even better is if they actively help connect you with potential employers. Try to find out as much as you can about the program before making a decision. You may even want to see if you could meet with the director of the program and/or some of the students and teachers to help determine if it would be a good fit for you.
