It was when I lived at a University of Texas dorm back in 1982.
And you needn't be a great player, as long as you're in there trying and are a good sport. And if you're better than your fellow player, don't brag about it and maybe even tone it down and let them keep it close, even risking that they'll win it. Or not, and just be matter-of-fact about it. Your choice.
And ever so casually asking someone you know in the dorm, class, or cafeteria. Hey, you want to go shoot a game or two of pool? The less you invest in asking them, almost the better. Heck, you probably learn more shooting and practicing a game on your own.
If there's a 50-50 chance of someone saying yes, there's still a pretty good statistical chance that it'll be streaky, with several yes's in a row and several no's in a row, just like a professional baseball player bats streaky.
