I have major anxiety about the fire alarms in college. They're insanely loud and shrill. Imagine someone blowing a whistle in your ears, repeatedly, while simultaneously flashing strobe lights in your eyes. It's sensory hell and an instant meltdown. I can usually leave the building by opening doors with my elbows (my hands being busy covering my ears) but the fire alarms leave me exhausted for the rest of the day. It's not the threat of fire that scares me. I know most of the time it's either drills or burnt popcorn (or weed).

So Grandma keeps sending me kitchen gadgets. I have a panini press and a mini cupcake maker. I've used them often at home, but I'm worried they'll set off the fire alarm in school. They use heating coils, like hot plates and toasters do, so there's no open flame. But will the heat and steam set off the fire alarms?
