I hate being at an all boys school
I'm a boy of 14 and my parents sent me to an all boys school even though i said i did not want to go to one and i wanted to go to a mixed gender school! i hate my all boy school. its hard because i don't really get on with other boys all that well, i get on way better with girls and all my friends outside of school are girls and sometimes there is a school disco and girls from the all girl school come to my school for the disco and its good, i wish the girls and boys were together all the time, i really hate the all male environment and sometimes i even get teased or bullied by other boys! i do not like other boys much
My eldest AS son was in an all-boys private school for a couple of years after we moved to the UK. Initilly, he was in a mainstream with boys/girls. He was bullied by some boys relentlessly, for not joining their "gang", and as he had an Aussie accent in a British school. Within 6 months, he was able to throw the accent and was speaking British, for survival purposes. He was mercilessly bullied, attacked in the bathroom of his school, tried to keep it to himself for a good year, as he'd been so positive and happy about the move from Aus to the UK, had really embraced it. He fared alot better in the private all-boys school. It was an International School, and he made friends there. He then, later went on to a girls/boys Secondary School from the ages of 14-18. He once again, had to cope with bullies, despite now having girls to interact with, and did eventually find friends. School days, huh! As a girl, I'm so glad I went to a co-ed set-up, as although girls liked and befriended me, the best relationships I had, were with males.

“Single Sex Classes”
It is often said that putting children into single sex classes will improve performance by removing the distraction of children of the opposite sex. This was attempted by a Pembrokeshire head teacher as part of a well designed controlled study.
The outcome was that it made no difference in measurable performance at all, though the girls classes were deemed to be more compliant and well behaved while the boys classes were “nightmarish” to teach until the teaching material was adapted to them. Ultimately the girls still outperformed the boys and in much the same proportions for the school as before the experiment.
It seems likely that single sex classes are not the issue needed to address the gender gap in achievement, but rather it is something about the curriculum boys are expected to follow and the lack of personalised education.
