Plagiarism is a serious crime in the United States. Sometimes, for normal people, it is easy to put things in their own words. However, for other people, especially those with AS, it is hard for them to put things into their own words. Is it easy or hard for you all?

I am not sure which question means what. Could you clarify it a bit more if possible, or someone else?

Do you find it easy or hard to dictate text by other people in your own words?

Sometimes I prefer to quote someone else simply by virtue of being much more clear what is expressed by my own words. I can take some time to organzie my thoughts, but a quote can sometimes articulate far better than using my own words. I like to make analogies for more difficult concepts, imperfect as that may seem. I feel that my expression (in writing only) is fairly good.

Unlike most aspies, my writing skills are fairly decent, so not really. Usually, I quote sources and comment on them (and commentary is not difficult to come up with).

lol

not particularly helpful, thatrsdude, but very droll ;)

i'm afraid i don't understand this, either. plagiarism, to me, means passing someone else's work off as your own.

Luke, Luke, Luke!

You copied what I wrote. What humor! I won't take any offense now, but the next time you do that, please quote me on what you type.

If I had quoted you, it would've ruined the joke.

It is easy for me.

I would rather do my own work because, if caught in the act of plagiarism, you could fail the class or get in serious trouble that will probably haunt your record for a long time (esp. if you failed a class). Anyways, you learn more stuff if you do your own work. If anyone commits plagiarism, they will suffer the consequences, which are not always good.

Way to think about it, Aspiegirl2. I know it is easy for some people to commit plagiarism and harder for others, but why bother even trying?

Anyway, I just wanted to hear people's opinions about this, and where they stand. I am well aware that everyone is different.

To answer the question, I did find it kinda hard at school, and it did take some effort but I got it done. Usually I end up doing an average job that involves swapping the order of a couple of words in each sentence, which technically makes it legal, but yeah it's often hard to put something into my own words without it looking contrived.

But then again, I've watched some episdodes of Media Watch where they accuse people of plagiarising, often doing what I just said I often did above. So I wouldn't make a very good career as a journalist. :?

Media Watch must be an Australian show.
