I recently applied to UC Davis, Irvine, Santa Clara and Berekely, but I'm not quite sure if I get homesick easily (I've never been gone for more than a few days at a time).

As fellow aspies, what are your experiences with going to school far away?

I can't speak since I'm currently living at home and going to school real close to me, but I don't know how far I'd have been able to travel either. Definitely not out of state, though, probably. I've never tried, but I don't think I would have taken well to it.

All your choices are relatively not too far from each other and in fact depending on where you live it might be real close by rail.

And I should mention that homesickness is something that nearly everyone, aspie or no, goes through. People like to play tough and act like it doesn't matter, but very few people don't get homesick moving away to college.

It was a great experience. (Of course, I wanted to get away from home). But if you can move out on your own, and learn to live by yourself, relying on yourself only, then you're set for life. Good luck!

I lived 180 miles from my parents house when I went away to collage. I really missed my hometown and hated dorm life passionatly. It took a little adjusting, learning how to take more care and responsibility for myself was a plus. Of course with all the collage work and the fact I was surrounded by mountains and vast areas of wilderness all around my school meant I spent alot of time doing projects to maintain a deans list GPA and all the hiking and mountain climbing and camping. I adjusted after a short amount of time but took every oppertunity I got to go home and spent as much time as possible their.
