Is anyone else a minister-to-be, a minister-in-training? Is it hard to do? How long will my M. Div. take? Is it as fun and exciting as it sounds?

You know, reading and learning about God and the Bible.

I know a guy who is studying to become a minister, and some people who want to be missionairies or youth ministers. They seem to enjoy it a lot

Well see, when God places a calling on your life, you find some things which to some people are tedious and boring, for you, with your eyes on the prize, the end game, they become highly interesting and stimulating.

I would Love to be a Minister but you will find they insist that you teach people that Jesus is God whereas Jesus himself said he was the son of God.

Actually, this is the subject of much debate, though I admit I am not knowledgeable enough to comment about it.

I actually know a guy who just started school to be a minister, and he seems to be having a good time. Best of luck in your studies.

As Richard Dawkins puts it, for people who studied to be a minister

"I dont want to break it to you, but you wasted your life"

In Christianity neither morality nor religion come into contact with reality at any point.

Much as I like the writing of Mr Dawkins, and despite having no faith myself, I have to disagree with that comment. For something to be useful, or not a waste of time, it usually has to be considered to be of benefit to humanity. It can be argued that some of the most valuable people in our society are those who help others, often for little financial reward. You could put priests, ministers, vicars or what ever else you want to call them in to that category. For people with faith, these individuals can bring reassurance and comfort in times of crisis; that type of help can be priceless.

Their benefit to humanity is nothing in comparison to research scientists, construction workers, police officers, etc. In short, anyone else. Priests help others for the their own gain; be it emotional or monetary. There was only one Christian, and he died on the cross.

Maybe they should learn to take strength in themselves, and not in others? Its just a crutch for them, a pitiful one. It sounds more like an enabler in a falsehood. Your just letting the person to live more in their "bad faith" as Sartre puts it.

A moral philosopher has more information on morals than any priest. What modern moralist would not condone Christian's stoning a man for working on the Sabbath, or letting his neighbors rape his daughter in exchange for leaving his friend alone? God is dead, both morally and logically. The morals it claims to hold are empty, as are the answers it gives about the world.

Christians have never helped me. My friend from Africa was told they would shoot him if he did not convert. I myself have gone through hell over it. You want morals? Don't look to Christianity.

The people you mentioned also do it for their own gain, perhaps more so. Research workers are doing their thing because it provides intellectual satisfaction, and a modest pay cheque. Few construction workers are in it for anything else other than money, and the same could be said of the police, with the exception of those who join the force because they enjoy having authority over others and are able to legally physically assault, or kill. However, some good does flow from these people doing their thing just as it does for a man of the cloth to do his.

That's their business, not yours. If they're not doing you harm, what's the problem?

So what? I doubt most people are that keen on wading through the pontifications of one of your moral philosophers, anyway.

Doesn't surprise me; I reckon they think you'll crucify them.

If doing it makes him happy then it's not a waste of time.
