I've recently enrolled in a photography course. One of the requirements was that you had to have a "good command" of english. I may not have a major [or even a minor] in it...but I'm certainly not a foreigner and have been speaking english all of my life!
Today I received a letter in the post from the course. It said that one of the requirements was that to enroll, I had to have a minimum of school certificate english! They didn't tell me on this initial enrollment form, so I didn't know until today.
I didn't complete high school, so didn't get this qualification.

I haven't actually received a letter saying that I was not accepted into the course, though. I'm having to wait for confirmation. I can say though, that since I don't have school certificate in english...I don't think I will be accepted into the course.
I've been planning this for months and thought that I was finally getting my life back together...but now I fear that this has all been for nothing and I will soon be back where I started from. I don't know what the point to this is...but I just need to vent! :(

P.S = This is an online course.

Yeah that kind of would suck.

I don't know how the school system works where you are but one guess though is that they're just checking the "good command" requirement and the easiest way is to ask for this certificate thing (which probably most people have?)

So what I would do is (especially if you've already paid some fee) is to call them on the phone and try to sort it out. It will probably be more effective since you can tell them in perfect english that you were unable to get a certificate in english (if it was related to aspergers or learning disability or something, tell them it was health-related issues that prevented you from getting it) and hopefully they'll be sympathetic

good luck with it though! :D

for a place trying to make a buck online, they have a funny way of encouraging people...;)
From what you printed, it sounds like if you don't have a good command, English had better respect you at least...;)

crazy, man....

Can you take a placement test to prove that you're competent?

Do you have a G.E.D.? If not, It might be worth it to get one if you haven't finished high school.

Thanks for the advice.

I'll wait for the letter to say if I have been accepted or not. If I have been accepted...then great. If I haven't, well i'll ring them and try to sort it out.

If that still can't be achieved...well i'll have to earn this english certificate first.
