Hi!

I need to make a presentation in front of my class on Friday. I am seriously feeling unwell about this for some reasons:

* I can not tell anything new since another teacher covered the maths already (he did nearly exactly what I am supposed to present to the class)

* Some people are doubleplusunnice to me and I fear that they do things to annoy me or make me lose track.

* My equipment is rather... ancient. I can't use the school computers and so I planned to hook up my craptop to the beamer - but it sometimes messes with the color palettes :/

* The presentation is highly important for my mark (I am between two marks at the moment, so this will be the tiebreaker)

I really am losing my calm about this, pondering worst-case scenarios. Any advises, encouragements, URLs of burka-manufactorers which deliver within 2 days?

I had to do a presentation once for an English class I took in college a few years back. The way I got through it, and the only advice I can give you is to just soldier through it and get it done. I was a wreck, my hands were shaking, my voice trembled a few times, but I got through it and got a good grade. There were quite a few other people who were all shaky and nervous too so I doubt that most people thought twice about me.

Now I was an emotional wreck for the rest of the day after I did it but I did get through it and I am glad that I got through and passed rather than failing and having to do the whole course over again. I was a wreck for a few days leading up to it as well, but the next day when I saw my marks for completion it felt very, very good.

Presenting stuff is difficult but I got over relatively fast ofr someone with Asperger's. (I had to presented to all my senior classes that I had Asperger's through presentataions because I felt it was the right thing to do in the end for something that was hold but was put into action after my decision to do it with the help of my case manager.)

TY, for your comments and your advise. Can you maybe tell me what would be the best to say if suddenly the colors of the screen are completely off (it happens with non-static colors and 8-bit colors, but I can not lower the resolution and use 16-bit color)? My most clever idea so far was: 'Oops! Oh well,... Anyone who feels encouraged to laugh is free to buy me a computer with more than 1 MB RAM in the graphics card!'

Normally I'd say that there was an easy way out ... but MATHS... who has to present for MATHS?

You need to find a new way to present - not the same as your teacher.

What's the presentation about? Exactly, maybe we can help you to find real-world examples you could use.

It's about a certain economical topic, but economy is always maths-related. I have no clue what the English term is, but it's the price, a monopolist should set for its goods to maximize its profit. I use the example from the German Wikipedia-article (it's kinda expected that I use that one). I planned to develop the solution with the class using a blackboard and grace (a program which can plot funcctions) from my craptop (an antique laptop with 75 MHz and 40 MB of RAM).

ok, if you're stuck presenting a given topic and using a given example then you really don't have much room to maneuver.

Are you using Microsoft as an example?
Google?

Anyway - if you're stuck on the topic, it's gonna come down to presentation style which means "tricks", mid-discussion questions etc...

If you are worried about color, do it in grayscale.... (black and white)

explain to the teacher about the graphics card if necessary

you should be able to right click on any graphic and chage the colors that it uses.

@kit00003: I am talking about the entire GUI, titlebars, menus and taskbar (I plan to develop things on the blackboard and then have it plotted on my PC). The drawings - for some strange reason are always okay, but menues and other visual elements aren't. But yeah, I guess I'll ask to do it first and if someone laughs I'll say 'I am really excited to see if you can do it without problems!' or even 'Want me to laugh if you 'll be presenting it as well?'.

@gbollard: I wanted to use a certain shoe company as example, well, WP did use one as example and I thought of making that unnamed monopolist Teva...

Practice your presentation heaps.

Psyche yourself up for it - tell yourself how well you are going to cope with your presentation.
Convince yourself that your voice will sound calm and self assured.

Good luck - I think you might surprise yourself on how well you can cope with this situation.

lucy1 just used a colloquialism which probably doesn't translate well.

It means practice a lot.

ty, for your good wishes! I think it wasn't as bad as expected. From what I heard so far, I scored marks for having it ready in time and being able to present it. Not being in a group also had the advantage of not quarrelling in mid-presentation (which happened already in one group).
