I am already getting ready for spring semester. I am for sure taking 2 classes-Art History and Earth Science. I'm wondering if I should pick up a 3rd. I've transfered from 2 other schools so I have a lot of transfer credits. I'm in my late 20s so I'm considered a non-traditional student. I do not have a job at this time and am living on disability. But the only other classes I'm eligible to take are American History or American Government/Constitution, both of which I have to take. I'm taking 2 classes this semester so I'm unsure if I can handle a third and I don't want to take more than 1 class with a great amount of reading.

One history class should provide plenty of reading, the earth science class may also have a lot of reading, but typically for an earth science class, you can get away with not reading the book, so I would count that out. I would make my third class the american govt class.

As for myself, I've never managed to survive with any more than 12 credits each semester.

I took AP US history, rather than waiting for college, but we had about 50 pages of reading per night before we went into lecture. It may vary slightly depending on your professor and how much they require, but American History is a lot of work and a lot of reading.

Listen to yourself. Take as many classes as you feel comfortable with. Better to take less and pass then more and get burnt out.
