How can I face a teacher who doesn't really like me? About last year, one of my teachers didn't really seem to like me because I don't know a lot about "real world" stuff like he does (and the rest of my class, too) like politics, music, dating, etc. and he either blames me or gives me a failing grade (most of the schoolwork is about it, too) because I don't know about that stuff, and it's not even my fault. I just been to a lot of different schools over the years and I was never thought that kinda stuff. Also, because I'm autistic, I have a hard time getting interested in that stuff.

*sighs* I wonder if I'll ever find my place in high school (or this whole world).

Your teachers were like my "popular" teachers. Thought I was stupid, never looked in my direction becaues I did bad or did not play rugby or cricket. essentially they looked down on me. Two things happened next.

1) My sister, who is the exact opposite of me came in. She said the teachers looked down on her. mistake 1. She was the popular, did everything correctly girl in school. They realized their mistake

2) I will finish my degree soon. A degree they all thought I was incapable of doing cause it is the most difficult degree you can do. mistake no 2.

Correct me if I am wrong but didn't Einstein FAIL Physics. Having AS is both a curse and a gift. Curse obvious reasons, gift, we focus and achieve what we set out to achieve. I have my black belt, I have my matric, I have my d-licence in skydiving, I am gonna represent my country. Ultimately we will in some way be more satisfied and more pleased with our end result than they will be. We set out to get something and we are happy.

Are you North Carolinian?

My suggestion would be ignore them as much as possible, and do some research whenever you have to do something involving the mainstream norm.

I'm South Carolinian! I knew I recognized the name High Point!

I'm guessing the people in your school have that typical Southern attitude to anything different?

Are you bothered about what that teacher thinks? Are you bothered about your grades? If yes, you could look upon it as a task, that you have to inform yourself of politics, current events, music and the entertainment industry, etc. (dating is a completely different ball game). It's fairy simple - read news on the internet and/ or newspapers, watch informative TV programmes like E! TV (or whatever they're called these days), MTV News, E Online, etc. You might find it boring, but the information you get will give you something to talk about with your peers, and probably make life easier for you.

I have a friend with mild AS who does this every day. He visits the same news website every evening after work and checks out the headlines and the gossip. That way he comes across as well-informed in social encounters, in addition to being highly intelligent. I think this makes it easier for NTs to accept his intelligence as they can find some common ground with him.
