I have very little money, dropped out and got a G.E.D,have really bad social anxiety so I wouldn't want a traditional class environment and have never taken the S.A.T's (I was never presented with the option of taking the test.).

What am I supposed to do?

Where do I start?

Please help I am so stressed about this, it's driving me crazy!

I don't understand this whole "college education" thing.

I can understand someone saying...

I want to be a Doctor, therefore I need a medical degree....

or any other profession which needs a degree.

BUT

Why would you want a college education just for the heck of it. It's not like it will automatically give you a job. Trust me, it's not the degree that gets the job. (or keeps it for that matter).

Because I enjoy Learning and I want to get credit for it.

A good place to start might be your local community college- if there is anything you need to do to satisfy admissions requirements, I'm sure they will be glad to guide you through that process, and once you have done work at community college it is possible to transfer to a four-year university if that is what you so desire.

Good luck.

well as long as you have a GED you can go to community college and as money is concerned, you could apply for financial aid like FAFSA or something...

I went through my state's vocational rehabilitation program and the federal SSDI program. They gave me part of the help I needed. It involves being a whore of the system, but it turned out okay for me and might do so for you.

Most colleges and universities accepted either the SAT or ACT which usually one is better than the other for some people, ACT in my case. Social Anxiety is something that you can fix yourself overtime, I done it myself a bit with my social life and the anxiety that came with it.

Am in near the same boat as yourself rpm2004.

Was actually kicked out of HS and sent to a continuation school, but eventually accumulated enough credits and graduated with my class by the thinnest of hairs. Being that I royally effed up all my "requirements" I've a feeling the SAT or ACT is just plain out of sight, also I never took those to begin with.

Like Orwell said, JCs are quality education anyone with a diploma or GED can attend, and hopefully transfer later on down the road to a four year university. Quite a few instructors I've had had actually taught at four year colleges as well.

FAFSA is the answer for low income individuals. Only problem is, that (correct me if I'm wrong anyone) until you are 24, you have to include your parents income on that form. This was a problem for a few of my friends... The BOGFW (Board of Governor's Fee Waiver) takes care of the cost of units and most fees as well.

-edit- BOGFW is a California thing, don't know if there is an equivalent in Nevada. Sorry about that!

I don't have any direction myself, but have the desire to earn a degree as well. Good luck with your dream dude.

Have you ever considered an online college. There are alot of legitimate, accredited schools that offer online classes and online degrees. This site here, http://www.degreeinfo.com, has alot of information about it. There's information on this site about how to find a legitimate degree program as opposed to a diploma mill. There's also a book about earning degrees in non-traditional ways by John Bear you might want to look into.

I wish these options had been available to me when I was in high school and college, going to a cyberschool would have been easier for me I know.

Phone a few universities and ask them.
