I have atypical autism and also have many obsessive interests! I use these to my advantage by taking electives that have to do with my obsessive interests!! ! It really works!! !

It never worked for me. When i focused on something, it wasn`t exactly what the professor was teaching at that moment. So it led me to fail subjects, because the professor will never ask you what you are interested in in order to make the final exam. It is a little frustrating because my grades aren't as good as they could have been.

The lesson i've learnt from this is that i should do what the other sheeps do, i mean, just follow the shepherd. At least until i become an independent researcher and can do what i want. I got many good ideas and it will help me make great discoveries.

For me, my major is my focal interest (Asian Studies) so I tend to do very well in those courses, and others that are outside my scope of interest slightly (sociology and such) I can use to relate directly to Asian Studies.
I'd say they're useful in college rather than "cool" though. I'm still as nerdy as I ever was.

My main interest is fantasy/mythical creatures and drawing them. And it is really usefull because I'm making an art portfolio ready for when I choose art at college. I have been doing some figure drawing and alot of mythical creatures, and alot of people really like it and I'm getting aload of compliments, my teacher says that my drawings would be good in childrens illustrations in books and I should do more work on illustration.
I don't know if it's "cool" though, because I'm going to get more "street cred" being interested in fashion and clubbing than drawing millions of mermaids all day.

I often get complimented on my seemingly neverending knowledge of films and some teachers now know me well enough that to get me to remember things associate them with a film. Just wish it worked... However I am a Media Studies student (film studies wasn't available) and we watch films and discuss films and 'I've Had The Time Of My Life' (sorry, I love Dirty Dancing) but I just don't enjoy watching to analyse. I like watching to enjoy and saying I have seen them. I didn't enjoy having to watch Requiem for a Dream cos it disturbed me, but I am proud to add it to my extensive film list.
However sometimes teachers dismiss me and move on swiftly when I mention a film cos it's 'off-topic' and my friends often get annoyed when I never stop talking about them.
