Am the only here who gets treated differently by the school then most kids? I mean, 2 years ago I was given a social skills class instead of a language. I got myself out of it exactly two months after school started. It was complete BS. All the kids were like 8 year olds, and me and 2 of my other friends who were in it were the only ones who spoke and acted like our age. I am also given an aide in all my classes, who constantly bothers me. I ignore the aide most of the time though, and don't listen to her. A lot of times teachers will give me extra things like word banks on tests and quizs, when no one else has them. If thats the case I simply scribble it over, so I am not given an advantage over the other students. And during standardized testing I'm taken to a different room to take the test with the other special kids. We are given unlimited time to complete the test. But I always find out exactly how much time the other kids get to take the test in, and then I time myself and always force myself to do it the time allowed. In other words, the extra time does nothing for me. It really annoys me how the teachers give me all this extra stuff, just because I have Asperger's and a hearing impairment. Really, its annoying. And they continue to put me through that stuff even though they know I ignore and/or don't use the help allowed to me.

I actually get some good things from my school. I have trouble taking notes, so I have permission to copy my notes from another student in the class. I also get 50% extra time on finals.

I copy off people anyways lol. As for extra time on big tests, I hate that stuff when its given to me. I want to be treated the same as all the other students. Just because I have some problems doesn't mean I should be treated any less.

I failed out of highschool because I wasn't diagnosed therefore couldn't receive extra help. But I'm going to try to persuade my mother to let me back and get an IEP to get extra help so I can go back.

Are you an Aspie or a Autie? I'm an aspie, and I honestly don't need much help. All I really need is to be seated near the front of the class for my hearing impairment, and just be asked if I am understanding it since I won't say so myself. All the other stuff they give me beyond pisses me off.

I myself was diagnosed with Aspergers last week, and I had to beg my mother not to tell my teachers, so that I don't get special advantadges. I'm pretty intelligent, I just have some minor troubles with staying focused on my work. So I get mostly B's, but I'd rather get B's the way I am now instead of getting A's with extra help.

If the part that really annoys you is the fact that the teachers feel the need to attend to you all the time, you could just ask them not to. Take some time after class or something to talk to your teachers about it. You've got nothing to lose, other than a few minutes of your time.

Its their job to make sure of that stuff. I have Asperger's and a hearing impairment, and I'm not exactly the best student there is. I get mostly Bs, a few As, a few Cs, and like one D. And I'm a slow learner. Honestly, IMO it doesn't make a difference. The teachers don't think so.

I'm assuming AS, been waiting in line for an evaluation forever and I won't get one until later this month finally and the second part of it not until March. I couldn't concentrate in class. I couldn't ask questions because I didn't know when you could and when you couldn't and was very withdrawn from everyone. During any kind of timed test or assignment or in class assignment I just wouldn't start unless prompted which led to constantly not getting work done and I also panicked due to the time limit. All this made the teachers put me in the front of the class which made everything very bad because I can't handle having people behind me. I would wait for everyone to leave first and for the halls to be less packed because I couldn't handle all the confusion in the hallways and people brushing against me so I was always late. My handwriting was either so tiny or otherwise sloppy that half the work I did never was graded. I can't make choices without crying my eyes and getting stressed out so any kind of free-choice assignment was never done unless a teacher decided for me-- but I can't communicate my thoughts or feelings at all so teachers weren't aware of the problem or thought I was lazy. I couldn't do any kind of presentations due to lack of eye contact and anxiety and hard time talking. Etc. etc. etc. It was just a mess and all this led to me failing every class despite my efforts. I'm hoping if I get extra help I can return to public school.

Yeah, that sounds a lot like AS. Have you ever taken the online Aspie test? Its not a real diagnosis, but its surprisingly good. You may want to try it out during your spare time. Here's the link: http://www.rdos.net/eng/Aspie-quiz.php

Your Aspie score: 156 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 32 of 200
You are very likely an Aspie

Chances are that you're an aspie. I was diagnosed when I was very young, and I've been getting help for mostly all my life. Now that I'm older and have gotten lots of help, I don't show as many Aspie traits.

Listen, it doesn't mean you are less then the other students. It's like denying a blind kid access to braille or a hear impaired student being given an oral test (I've had those before - not fun). It's giving you equal footing with the other kids. I understand that feeling though, I was denied my Spec. Ed. benifits in Grade 7 and 8, and when I got them back in grade 9, I didn't want them. I wanted to be "normal". Guess what? We're both not normal, but it doesn't have to ruin your school career. You should reap the benefits of this.

The thing is, I am on pretty equal with the other students. In fact I'm one of the best writer's in the 8th grade at my school. I learn a slower pace, but so do other kids in my class. I find it all pointless, and believe I deserve to be given what the other kids are given. The only thing I'll accept is the seating at the front of the class, as I have hearing loss (I have very little hearing in my right ear) so as much as I hate the front of the room it helps me hear the teacher better. I'd much rather be in the back though, so I can talk with friends and doodle and goof around. I'll be asking my audiologist (hearing doctor) when I see her next about maybe a hearing aide for my impaired ear. Not sure if I can get only one though.

I'm a good writer too. I was in a writing program for two and a half years that only 25 out of 300 people who auditioned every year got into to. It doesn't mean I have special needs.
I think having unlimited time for tests is a bit demeaning. I have it for 1 1/2 the amount of the other kids, which works for me. It might not work for you.
It's good though that you're getting help, even if it seems you don't need it. It's much better then needing help and not having access to it.

I don't even use the help to begin with. I ignore the extra word banks and stuff they give me on tests, as in scribble it out, I time myself on standardized tests when I get extra time so that I complete it within the time the other students are allowed, and I ignore the aide in my classes. Its quite pointless for the school to give me help that I simply ignore.

Is there anyway you could arrange to not have an aide, etc? If you ignore the aide it'd be nice if someone else who needs an aide could have them present.
