I am disabled. I am pretty much visually impaired and I was said that while this was the first time they had a visually impaired student, it would not be a problem. Well, normally it isn't, but occasionally certain situations pop up where I feel at a disadvantage. One of these situaiton is any practical exam (ie: an exam at the computer). I can not use the default settings in windows very well, so I kinda live with losing 2 minutes to set everything up for me: Getting into the X11, starting the terminal and setting things up correctly there (font size 22, type Bitstream Vera Sans Mono).

However certain things I can not and do not want to do during exams in the time, we are supposed to work on stuff relevant to our marks. One of these things is configure an IDE to display readable text. It takes long, is not really easy to do when the writing is small and ffs, it is not graded. So far I could do well with a simple text editor in a terminal, but for Java this does no longer suffice.

Well, this is why I want some assistance for the final exams next semester: for practical exams which can only be done well with an IDE, I want someone to set the resolution lower on the system I work on. during these kinds of exams, our places are assigned, so it should not be too much of a hassle, even though it would require an admin to set it up before, and undo it later. I asked the teachers in the subjects where it would be advantageous, but got no help for exams so far.

How should I go on now? Am I asking too much? Why do people not understand that visually impairment can sometimes not be solved with glasses?

Update: I informed one of the admins, lost my cool (cried silently  ), and he will speak to his superior about the issue. Though the solution, I hoped for no longer is feasible, maybe there is another one. :ncool:

Your requests seem reasonably enough, but I don't know what the law is in Germany. Bureaucracy can tend to make a mess of anything, though.
