What are the ranking cliques at your school/college?

I no longer go to school for I home scchool now but I've been to a private school ever since kindergarten through the middle of 8th grade where I started homeschooling.And I'm probally going back next year.
In every school there are all kinds of cliques under labels.Here are the ones at my school:nOTE:Our ranks are probally different from most schools.

The IN-Crowd/High ranks

1.Jocks and Cheerleaders-The highest ranking label at our school.There are several cliques under this one,one of the largest being ,whatmy label groups, called "The Jockies".A large number of people are also in "The Prostitution group" and "The Snob Squad".

2.Preps-These are the pretty people and who are rich and act all snobish.Mostly everyone here is in "The Snob Squad".

3.Friendlies-These are poeple who were popular because they were very nice and friendly.

MIDDLE RANKS

Regects-These are people who are sort of poplar but they have alot of punky qualities.

Gossip group-These were people who sat around and gossiped all day and made up rumors about people.They were sort of popular.

Lowest ranks/Outcasts

Goths/Punks-These were the people who dressed and acted wierd or so decided by the high ranks.You know who these ppl are.

Freaks-VERY WIERD AND FREAKISH PEOPLE.

Geeks/nerds-People who were really smart and really unattractive and were clumbsy or etc.

Disabled/Menally handicappe-mutes,blinds,ret*ds,Aspies,etc.I was labeled in this category.Though I was the only known Aspie though I had several ADHD and Dyslexic FRIENDS.I even had some friends in higher classes than me and a bunch in the middle classes,mostly regects.

So...anyone else?

I have talked to members of all cliques...

All of them have their good and bad people...

You'd be surprised how many goths and preps behave morally; actually...

I had a female goth in a photography class I took.

Nicest person I ever met.

When I was in junior high school I divided the student body up in to the different classes of people.

1. The "bad" kids. - These were limited in number to about a two dozen, but they were clearly on the top of the heap. No one messed with them.

2. Jocks/Preps - No explination needed here

3. The "Normal" kids - Students who just came to school and did their thing with out bothering or disturbing others or drawing attention to themselves

4. The outcasts - This is where I fell. As with the top group, we were few in population, and most of us wound up there through no fault of our own. Most of us were there because of the mental problems we all had.

However, this group also had two NT's who had the misfortune of making a social gaffe.

Each group could be subdivided into smaller groups and there were complex unwritten rules in place for determining who could interact with each other.

For example, it was OK for a person in group 1 to interact with a person from group 4. But a person from group 3 could or could not interact with a person from group 4 depending upon the reason why the person in group 4 was in there to begin with. It was this rule that got the two people from group 3 booted down to group 4.

I was fully aware of the social rules, but despite that, I could never figure out how to use them to my advantage.

i'm not saying that goths or punks are bad,most of my friends are punk and some are goth.this is just how our school society goes although every group has thier names for other groups.

We just didn't have goths at our school. There might have been like two or something.

The top is obviously the superficials.

slu*ty and stupid girls and boys that drop out of school at 15

Then the boring people that thought they were cool, and also a bit nerdy, but they were normal, so they were liked.

Eccentrics (I was sort of in this area)

Computer nerds that were obsessed with anime and computers

Weirdos/freaks - people that wore black trench coats and acted sort of like the computer nerds, but they were kind of slu*ty and really weird.

No-one really hung around with special needs people, so they wern't really part of the hierachy.

Here are the cliques in my school from my perspective:

Preps/Ditzy girls/Popular girls: These girls are talented, beautiful, and rich, and they are extremely shallow and mean to those who are smart, those who are weak, those who are poor or orphaned, those who are not attractive and those who are different in any way. They spread rumors and accuse outcasts of doing very, very bad things to people. They are some of the worst people to be around.

Jocks/Macho Idiots/sports teams: These boys are just plain stupid. They insult those who are intelligent. They are judgmental, they look attractive, and take pleasure in knocking people down in the hallway and throwing things at people. They are popular and they always get girls to go out with them. If I were a girl, I would avoid them and not like them. Ew.

Goths/etc.: Extremely nice people to be around despite their appearance. I am not a Goth(I'm considering it, as my best friends from Camp Kodiak are(this is a summer camp that specializes in Aspergers and related disorders) ), but I think that they are wonderful people and they teach you not to judge others.

Little groups of friends: They can be nice or mean depending on the group. My friend Courtney has a little circle of friends. She's the most wonderful person in my life as of now, but I'm not in her circle of friends because I am a 7th grader and she is a 6th grader, whose free time never coincide.

Individual practitioners/loners/outcasts: This refers to all those who are not in a group. This mostly includes those that almost no one bothers to even try to be friends with. I have been in this group since the beginning of 1st grade. I have NEVER belonged to a clique. This is caused by naivete. The reason for my naivete is the extreme alienation that MOST of my peers show me. I have NEVER been invited by a peer to join a group or to sit at someone's table at lunch. Often they will just either tell me to go away or grab my lunch tray and throw it at me(which is an extremely unpleasant experience) I have zero friends in my grade. I have a few friends in 6th grade, and and a few aquaintances in 8th grade. I ask people why they're so mean to me and they just say, "Because you're so ANNOYING they way all you do is sing, state facts, spell words, and answer questions! Leave me the ***** alone!"

My school is a Blue Ribbon school. My peers are the only bad aspects(I think). I still wish for something better though...

So are you saying Goths in general are really popular at your school?

I think Chris meant goths were nice people, not popular (the two rarely coincide... popularity corrupts, perhaps? For some reason I find myself thinking of the film 'Heathers' reading this thread..). Speaking as a goth, I have to agree with Chris obviously..... A lot of people drawn to 'gothic' music/style/media/worldview etc tend to be intelligent, creative and pretty individualistic, thus underlying the dour appearance and nihilism (which is mostly an affectation by the way) is generally tolerance, a belief that it is cool to be different, and open minded attitudes/behaviour. As subcultures go its pretty aspie-friendly...

At my school we don't really have a hierarchy of cliques. We left that behind in elementary school. However, within the clique, there is a hierarchy...I am in the middle of the hierarchy in mine only because there is a girl in my group who has the mentality of an eight year old (fact, not an insult) and the fact that I beat up the leader of our group last year...Anyways...the groups

Cheerleaders...we have them, and they have no power and are forgotten. Actually, I was one (a chapter in my life which I do not wish to revisit).

UDA/UDAA (United Ditzes and for boys, United Dumb@sses Association) also known as 'Lollipop Girls': Last year, girls in this group ALL had blonde streaks...not nice blonde streaks...like two inch thick streaks which made them look like witches. This year, they tend to have a combination of red and blonde streaks. Many girls in this catergory have dyed their hair one full colour (not that all girls who have full colour dyes or streaks are in this catergory). They are as dumb as dirt and make a hobby of constantly complaining to math teachers about how hard the subject is. Boys of the UDAA are the boys who choose to hang out and date these girls.

Hip Hop Kids: The girls in this group are even dumber than the UDA. Most of them are more docile, and allow the boys to make fun of them constantly. The boys in this group are sexually overdriven dogs (IMO) who grab the girls' asses and treat them like objects. A couple of the girls in this group stand up for themselves. The kids in this group are dumber and more ignorant than the UDA/UDAA, but are quieter about it than they are.

C-Unit (Caribbean Unit): As the name suggests, this group is made up of kids whose parents came from the caribbean, or were born there themselves. This is a small group, and hard to classify...One main trait is a lack of ambition or foresight (as in, they skip a lot). The older girls in this group can be very bossy and dominering. A lot of your value in this group is placed on how well you can dance. I am a "part" of this group, but I am trying to leave- I find the pursuit of knowledge more interesting than dancing (I can't dance either).

Smokers: Hardly ever seen in the school. Are typically outside most of the time smoking tobacco or marijuana. It is not uncommon to find 17 year olds in this group who are still in grade nine.

Goodie Goodies: Can do very little wrong and are very innocent and always have averages above 80. I have many, many friends in this group. Mind you, some people in this group are evil uber competitive b*tches, but I gave them a 'goodie goodies' catergory because teachers love them.

Gifties: Latin-obsessed, and very much like the goodie goodies (without the high averages). Were placed into the gifted program in grade four after doing a test in grade three (I didn't do this test), and a lot of them seem like aspie candidates. All of my older friends in school (except one) are gifties. This clique will die out in a sense next year, when the Gifted program officially ends, and when the normal population is allowed to take 'Enriched' English and/or Math (which are in a sense, gifted).

Misc: Everyone else...normally in small cliques...

Loners/Outcasts: To be an outcast at my school, you have to piss everyone off. If you so choose to go alone, people leave you alone and don't do anything to harm you. Loners are typically new kids who have not been 'adopted' yet by a clique...Outcasts are the people who just cannot make friends, and are typically very b*tchy. Some loners have friends, but not close friends (like me).

I am a mix of C-Unit, Goodie Goodies (without the innocence and I do much wrong) and Loner....

At my school, the cliques are divided by your ethnicity. The cliques aren't really ranked, but here they are in order of percentage of the student population:
Tied for #1- Popular Asian Kids, popular Greek/Italian/Russian kids, kids of all races who are in S.U. (Student Union), in ROTC, in the school orchestra or choir, or who play on sports teams. Anyone who is mixed race or is French African is in this category because they are exotic and cool like Keanu Reeves, unless they are punk/goth.
#2. 'Ghetto' Asian kids, popular African American kids, popular Hispanic kids. Anyone who is born again Christian and does not fit any of the above descriptions.
3. Popular white kids who are NOT Greek, Italian, or Russian, regular Asian kids, most African American kids and Hispanic kids. Popular immigrant kids (kids who don't speak English right)
4. Unpopular white kids such as goths and punks, students of color such as Asians, Blacks and Hispanics who act goth and punk and are therefore rejected by other kids of their race. Unpopular ESL kids.
5. Drug addicts, kids who do not listen to rap or techno music, nerds/geeks/hackers, kids with really bad grades, and people like (tangential) Nick S. who smells and dropped out last year. You can tell that he sucks, I don't like him because once he coughed on me and gave me a cold and he smells and he bothered me and he is a satanist.(/tangential)
Caveat: If you are a blend of Goth/punk and 'ghetto gangsta', then you are in the latter category and therefore cool.

I'm a Popular Asian Kid, but I also hang out with popular ESL kids and popular kids of all races. I used to hang out with some goth and punk kids, but they pick on me and are mean. Nick S. is one of them. He may be Russian and Jewish, which means he is a candidate for popularity on basis of ethnicity, but he is SO NOT popular because he's a punk rocker. I don't talk to him since he smells.

At Chantry, this is the school ranking of popularity.
1. Popular chavs.
2. Popular skaters and other chavs.
3. Everyone else.
4. Me. I am the ultimate social reject (I think) as I am into goth fashion and music; am a bit of a metalhead; am into extreme sports; a mathematical prodigy; in top sets for everything and an Aspie. Yeah! People think I suck!

This is what I remember from High School. Don’t mind the stereotyping here, but should be entertaining anyhow. I have included a rough population estimate of each group.

5% Chavs/scallies - These are your disruptive bad boys – or girls – that sit at the back of the classroom and talk over the teacher. They are often absent or late and choose to come in a dress code that is contrary to the school code. These are the people that will fail exams – or don’t do them – and will encounter problems with the law outside of school.

20% Popular kids - They preoccupy their time with the opposite sex, sports – especially football – and are highly sociable people. Some of them are insulting to different people; some can be nice people too. They often don’t study hard but have average/high intelligence or just smart; depends how you look at it.

60% Cool Kids - Basically your normal person [with the largest population] that are often found in medium/large sized social groups. This group can be broken down into sub-groups like Goths and Mosher’s for example; but generally all have the same abilities and intelligence.

15% loners/outcasts - A broad group with all different abilities and psychology. Geeks, Freaks, Nerds, Weirdoes etc… are all in this group.

That sounds typical from what I can remember too (I left school in 1992)
The proportions were different though, probably more like
25% Chavs/Scuffers/whatever (cos our head was soft - he accepted the kids who were expelled from all the neighbouring schools and never expelled anyone however bad they were, because 'everyone deserves a chance' )
10% Popular kids (excluding popular scuffers)
55% 'Normal' kids
10% Loners/outcasts/'weirdoes'

I spent most of my high school years fluctuating between the normal and weirdo sub-groups, as I was partially accepted for liking skateboarding and having good taste in music.

Since we both live in the UK I guess they would be similar because of having the same culture. Also the percentages will differ from class to class and schools to schools. Like you, I was in the normal/weirdo categories.
