I believe the Internet is a good thing. It can only continue to be a good thing if it's not controlled by governments (a la China) and major international bodies.

Your absolutely correct!! The Governments should not be allowed to control the Internet. Maybe a few sites that should be removed are (child porn sites etc..) they should not be allowed up!!

But as for the Internet, I think its a good thing and it can only get better.

It's technology.

Start with the assumption that technology is neutral.
Technology most often is capable of magnifying both good and bad effects.

The internet spreads news AND rumour faster than before.
Support groups and sects,
Culture and porn.

It gives access to more information that ever, ever, before.
But much of it is rubbish, or distorted or badly biased (Sturgeons's law),
raising more than ever issues of confidence and reliability.

A world for an individual to cherry pick, and a place for mass movements to rampage.

i think the cool thing about the net....is it sorta acts like the way wisdom works in our own brains.
like when u see another side to something....u make a neural connection(white matter) so u then see more points of view on that topic etc.....and over the years of ur life this is collectively called 'wisdom'

and the way the net links between things...seems similar....sorta like a 'world brain'......so lots of different points of view....some crazy some not....but amalgamated into a sort of collective wisdom maybe...

also it increases peoples critical thinking at worst :)

(opps sorry not a kid....but i do resemble Nietzsche's child spirit theory :? )

The internet is a tool. It's the use of that tool that can be good or bad.

It depends on the website.

Every object/emotion is neutral. Its how that's used that makes it right or wrong. The internet, just existing, is neither good or bad, neither right or wrong, it exists.

Anger tends to be thought of as an inherently 'bad' or 'wrong' emotion BUT it depends on the circumstances.

Scenario A:
Some person is angry. They decide to vent their anger by say, bullying somebody.

In this scenario, they have expressed their anger in a bad or wrong way. If someone says 'Angry', I think this is the kind of mental image that

Scenario B:
Some person is angry over an injustice. They vent their anger by working hard to correct it.

In this scenario, they have used their anger to help them fight an injustice. A 'right' or 'good' way to express their anger.

Same emotion, different outlets, different moralitys.
The outlets were the key here.

but how can you think that it can not not monitor the internet? if it does not then the world of child porno will become out of control. you see if someone does not police it , it will become a place with no morals or ethics.. so how can we take these sites down unless the laws do not back allow us? #1 reason why virus are so out of control is because there is no laws to punish the people who create these viruses that can black out cities, hospitals, and basic needs of life.

the internet can't be either right or wrong, it is the people who negotiate the system could be using it for the wrong or the right purpose. for example cyber bullying is totally wrong but there are plenty of kids doing things that are positive by using the internet like starting small businesses,

Internet can be a great thing, as long as you avoid getting addicted to it

C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!
I think the internet is bad.
Why?
Because it might be the best thing ever invented (YAWN) but it also stops people learing to socalize properly, so in a way, it doesn't really help us people who already have socalization problems :?

It's like, you never talk to anyone in your class during the day, but as soon as you get home and log in, they all become your best friends!
One day, kids will be walking down the street and upon seeing someone they know, will not wave or say hi, but start typing furiously in mid air.. And the other person will know exactly what it meant!
Down with the internet!

But not while I'm playing World of Warcraft!
