If another kid called you a ret*d, how would you react?

Insults do not bother me, as there is never any proof to back up the statement. Constructive criticism, however always pisses me off, no matter how constructive its supposed to be.

That's a real hot-button word for most Aspies, I think. I'm an adult and don't react to it at all well, so I can understand kids going crazy over it. Strangely, I'm dealing with it a little bit now for the first time in ages. I've started studying with a new drum teacher, and he calls my left hand "ret*d." Not me, per se -- just my left hand because it's slower and weaker than my right. All in all, it's true and he's technically correct in a way. Still cringe every time he says it though...

To answer your direct question, I would tend to implode (rather than explode) at being called that.

i would love to have musical talent. anyways, if i had a new teacher telling me any part of me was ret*d, i would be sorely tempted to retort with the comment that teacher's frontal lobes were ret*d because they were slower and weaker than teacher's mouth. then i'd fire the snob and get a new new teacher. just my 2-cents' worth, adjusted for inflation.

I don't really care about them. I'm told I'm usually the one who dishes them out; yet not always intentionally. But sometimes people are just annoying.

When I was 11, I got called a ret*d by a kid at the playground. Not knowing how to respond, I cried like it was the end of the world. Looking back on that event, I should have used my creative cursing skills, and said: "Choke on your basketball, you dried-up ******bag!" That would've sent that brat running.

I actually react to verbal bullying more harshly than physical bullying. Unless the person uses their fingernails.

Verbal bullying doesn't hurt me much anymore.
