I've worn out more than one set of LoTR.
It took me some time to get into the Silmarillion, though.
(the key turned out to be to read it backwards in sections)

The films were very good, but with increasing points of disappointment.

I remember when my and my sister watched the entire trilogy in one sitting one rainy weekend (EXTENDED EDITION). We started at 7:00am and the final credits rolled at...

...9:00pm. God, when you don't move for that long, it feels like your piledriving through mud, I'm telling ya.

The books are very awesome... the movies are so long that I can't sit through them...
