Same except it is my son with me. Through his journey of diagnosis, things cropped up which cleared up much of my own life. It now makes sense to me too.

It was a process which occurred between age 42 & 44 for me.

Self-diagnosed either last year, or early this year, in my mid-50s. Confirmed today after a formal assessment and followup (I have just changed my diagnostic status today on WP, after I came back from the session with my psychologist). I had thought for years that there was something genetically different about my brain ... never realised that it might be Asperger's until I did the AQ Test by chance, and was surprised to find that I scored rather high. I have had sensory sensitivity for years, but thought it was some private weirdness unique to me - I had never heard of anyone else having it until a year ago.

Professional Diagnosis Aspergers: 20
Professional Diagnosis ADHD: 12

My parents suspected AS from I was 10-11, since they first heard about the diagnosis.

I was 4 when diagnosed with "regular" autism.

I was 13 when diagnosed with AS.

DX'd at 10, I was severly effected from about 4 onwards and surprised nobody noticed... I never made eye contact, had no idea how to talk to people, got bullied (alot).
