I was 20 when I moved out of my mother's house.

I paid 1/3 of the rent right before I moved out.

19 years and 9 days, precisely.

I know because from that day, I was homeless for exactly 6 months to within a couple hours.

I went to boot camp to get off the street.

I just moved out, and was 26. But I made sure to "go big" and move 7 states away.

I moved out when I was 16.

There was no room for me. I got pushed out of my room by my grandma moving in. So I slept in the living room. Then I got pushed out of their by someone else moving in. And I was sleeping on the kitchen floor, and then I got told I couldn't do that in case people wanted to get up and get things in the middle of the night.

So, then I ended up tenting it. And I ended up just moving in with my boyfriend at the time.

20 – went to school abroad for a year and never really moved back into my parents' house although I've stayed in the basement a couple of times in between flats.

I moved out of my parents' house when I was 18 so I could live on my University campus. I live in an apartment rather than a dorm now, and the rent prices are stupidly expensive where I live. It's totally understandable why some college students decide to stay home.

That's complicated. The first time I moved out of my dad's house was when I was 17, but that was to live with my grandparents. A few months later, at 18, I moved out of my grandparents' place to live with a friend's family. About 6 months later, I moved back in with my dad. When I was 20, I moved out of my dad's place again, to live with another friend's family, and after about a year, I moved in with my other set of grandparents. Now, in a few days I'm going to be moving to the same city as my dad, renting a room in a trailer with an older disabled man, and the owner of the place. I've spent approximately a year and a half living away from family.

So really, not counting when I moved out of my mother's place at 15 to live with my dad, the first time I moved away from my parents was when I was only 17. The first time I moved away from living with members of my own family was when I was 18. I've never really had a place of my own before, and the friend's families I lived with pretty much treated me as another member of the family, so the arrangement I'm going into will be the closest I've ever come.

First time ever or permanently?

At 20, I went to school 250 miles away and lived in a duplex with four other girls. The next year, I lived in my own studio. I'm back home now at 22.

Right before I turned 23, this has been my first year on my own. Not really independent since my parent's still support me but no longer the same house, I couldn't go on living there any longer.

I never moved out of my parents house.
I still regularly inhabit my room there and the house, when I go to visit my parents regularly.
I only started living elsewhere for long periods when I went to college.

I have never moved out of my parents' house. They are both dead but I still live in the same house, along with my eldest sister.
