I'm:

1/2 Latvian (Mom's first hubby and my biological father)
1/4 Danish
1/8 French Canadian
1/8 some kind of Brit (English, probably) transplanted to Massachusetts several hundred years ago and therefore known as "good ol' Yankee stock"

so basically, I'm an all-Caucasian mutt. It's interesting what people come up with when they meet me, though - some think I'm part Asian or part Middle Eastern somehow, etc. I don't see it.

now that IS spooky - i'm a celtic mongrel - mainly welsh and irish, with some Rom thrown in for good measure - and I often get taken for "mediterranean" or asian-ish. cos i'm dark skinned and haired, i suppose.

SINsister! we are twins, separated at birth! (and by about 6 years, but, what the hell).

Let's see...

My mom is from the Deep South. My dad is from Puerto Rico. It's just a shame that race/ethnicity questions on forms don't have the "ALL OF THE ABOVE" option. *blows a raspberry*

my moms mom is Polish. her dad was welch & Irish & some percentage of jewish

My dad's people were from England. (War of the roses, yea we lost that one) his mothers people from Ireland (thus the red hair and temper)

So Im a mostly polish red haired aspie in the south that's decendant from royalilty and who (as my little sister figures) has a jewish left big toe.

this explaines why I fight when I drink, think I should be treated as a queen and why I have always had a great dislike for pork..... Oh and my dad fighures the polish accounts for the klutz in me.... thanks dad.....

I'm Australian.

But looking closer I'm half Italian (with the folks on that side from Italian-German-Austrian heritage), the other half is Scottish-English-Welsh, decended from the Glasgow I think, mixed in with those of the Spanish line of Raphael.

I'm half Dutch, and the other half is Scottish/English.

I'm interested in this subject, because I've noticed there appears to be a preponderance of people of northern European descent represented on the spectrum, so I've wondered if there's genetics involved, somehow springing up at some point in the northern climes. I'd like to see statistics on this.

My fathers side:

From what I know it all began in Germany, where the immigrants who came to Brazil in the 19th century came from. One of them beared my family name, and was the ancestor of my grandfather. All the people in between 'the first' and my grandfather where all white.

My grandfather married a woman of mixed white and African descent (who eventually became my grandmother). The white part of her wasn't German though, but Portuguese.

Thus, my father is 3/4 white and 1/4 black (and 1/2 German, 1/4 Portuguese and 1/4 African for that matter.

My mothers side:

My grandfather was from African descent, while my grandmother was the first of her family tree not to be born in India (Punjab). Which makes my mother mixed Asian-Black.

Which makes me a varied melange, but I prefer to call myself just Brazilian.

I don't think the categories offered are particularly effective demonstrators/classifications of ethnicity!! !

On the outside, I'm "white as the driven snow"...LOL.

But oftentimes, especially in the "real-world" (offline), I tend to identify better with more non-whites than those "of my own kind"; certainly not complaining though. Guess I don't have too many common interests with a lot of "whiteys" I deal with, esp. at my job...I'm decidedly more "urban" in my tastes than I am, "redneck" (yep, I'm in the south LOL)....
