"Canadia"
True, we are taxed at a much higher rate than most of the US, but I could tell from her spelling and word choice that she was not American, I think she's in the UK. They get it hard and deep like we do.
Oh, for the record I don't pledge allegiance to anyone unless I choose to. I am a sovereign person, my own highest authority, just like everyone else.

you have to admit that it's somewhat heartening (a phrase I use loosely since I apparently don't have one), however, to see someone hesitant to take aid instead of hoarding all they can get
Oh, for sure. I mean, the fact that she posted this and was worried about the welfare of everyone else being affected by her needs, damn, breaks your heart.
I'm an anarchist now, but I was a Conservative voter and a libertarian for many years, and I'm still not a fan of the welfare state, or any facet of the state for that matter. I'm not advocating living like a welfare bum, I'm just advocating a certain strategy that uses the state against itself - guerrilla life.
A guerrilla uses the enemy's strength as a weapon against itself; transforms their own weakness into strength. A large enemy is also an enemy that is slow to respond and react. An enemy in a fortress in an enemy in a prison of their own making. The VC used
discarded tin cans dropped by US soldiers to fashion booby traps - garbage weapons. This is why guerrillas are rarely defeated., because they fight in ways that let them win.
And, if you are worried about the costs to the state, think about how much it costs to put someone through high school; if they go to a state college, how much does that cost taxpayers?
People on the autism spectrum are vastly overrepresented in the areas of criminality and addiction, and I think getting housing and food with enough left over for an internet connection would do vastly more good for autistics than any school ever could. In the meantime, one could work under the table for extras, using their time for self-improvement and self-education.
When we delve into our obsessions without apology we are becoming what they most fear, and what we most need to be. People are scared of us for good reasons.
The Viet Cong's greatest weapon was their tunnel system, hidden, segmented and cellular. We need tunnel networks too, although ours need not be physical in nature, simply an unseen parallel world right under their noses, a place to regroup and seek shelter, to plan and grow strong. We can't beat them at their game, so we need to make them play ours.
And we don't need to hurt anyone to do it either - just steal their garbage.
The last thing you are is heartless; being against theft and injustice is a pretty rational position to take.
