I'm tempted to collect pop bottles and cans.

I'm tempted to visit five different neighbourhoods a week, twice a month, to collect pop bottles and cans, in order to be able to pay for my computer art supplies. It's very doubtful that I can find a decent volunteer position in my neighbourhood, and not many companies would be willing to hire me. I don't want to be working in a sheltered workshop, either. This seems to be the only way, right now. I'm out of ideas. I need to make it seem like the money is going to a good cause. The question is, how do I do that?

Lots of people collect empties, not just the homeless. Recycling day is the best time to do it, obviously, first thing in the morning. I've picked bottles on several occasions as well, when I was really desperate for money, once at a fairground.

Probably your best bet is to visit apartment buildings or condos. There's a higher density of people putting their garbage/recycling in one spot. They're less likely to have a car to return their empties. On the other hand, they also might need to pinch those nickels more than other people do - so they might be more likely to return their empties. Try not to visit the buildings in the poorest neighborhoods or those really close to shelters or social housing - you're more likely to encounter competition for those empties!

In Denmark you could get 1Kr each for empty beer bottles. Something I didn't know until a checkout girl told me!

I'll try the apartment and condo idea, and go to those places to collect the bottles and cans.

1 Kr a beer bottle seems very g$$d! :D
