It possible but i wouldn't recommend it .
U can volunteer and get some job in an IT unit which is not so different from working at a regular office or a startup and connection u make there could be very useful later,
It could also be quit fun because this units are basically just a bunch of fairly twisted young people but as a general rule the army sucks big time

I served in a combat unit and in some way it is better than serving in a support units because there was no discipline and no one pulled his rank on you as we were all tough guys and heroes and stuff and we really didn't give a dame about anything or anyone, the drawback is that Fighting could be really really really bad and very scary .

If I recall correctly all able bodied and mentally sound(which would exclude Asperger's) men and women, are required to serve in the IDF. And given the constant strain and threats Israel faces, you most likely would be able to serve unless your Asperger's comes with something else like a mental or other serious disorder.

However, don't take my word for it, as I've never served in a military force.

hey jzanx---- i would agree with nara44 from an american point of view. i am a vietnam vet who was in a non-combat field, but when things start getting out of control, you best be handy with your weapon.

the fairly twisted young people label brings back memories.

my situation was i was 17, homeless, had no one, had no money, didn't know my social problems had a name. it was a correct move for me.........make sure it's a correct move for you.

"Fighting could be really really really bad and very scary "

How scary can it be if you've got machine guns and they have sticks and rocks.

I do not recall u being part of my unit and do not believe you know anything about my military service but when u try to stand your ground and saves your friends against an army which is many many many times bigger than your small unit as was the case in the battles i fought things could turn to be as bad and as scary as they could be really fast/
I wouldn't describe the more than a few well equipped Egyptian divisions that launched a surprise attack on us as "sticks and rocks" but u must be a lot braver than me so i guess for you an 1 to 100 odds is just a child play/
BTW
I never served in the occupied territories because i was wounded in the 73 war and i believe that even if i wasn't i would refuse to do so but your are very wrong if u think of fighting at a close quarter of a Kasba where every thing can be an IED as a child play
in many cases it is much more scarier then fighting a big battle where everything is open and clear and the enemy is clearly identifiable,
Still,in most cases the IDF fared much better with much less collateral damage than the Brits or the american who sent their troops half way across the world while at least Israel can claim to fight at the border
Personally i hate the military and the war and hated it long before i had to enlist but at least the IDF is not as bad as the British and the Americans

i personally would not join on moral grounds and i hope any intelligent person would do the same. The IDF are guilty of many many atrocities.

Or maybe it's time people try to change that from the inside out.

Educate and bring awareness instead of attacking each other so often.

If u think that the US army or any other army for that matter have better records you are very wrong,
They are much worse,
The data is there ,
Availabale to anyone who care to look at it objectively and honsestly (something which is required of ppl claiming to speak from moral high grounds),
Hypocrysy doesn't go well with morality/

If moral, intelligent people don't join armies then armies will be full of stupid, immoral people....and there are plenty of those in the world.

So personally, I'd prefer more moral and intelligent people joined the military.
