I would have thought that they wanted the opposite.
I just took one tonight and one question was "I spend a lot of time thinking about what life is all about"
What am I supposed to say to that? It's all I do. Is it bad or good ?

Every time I take one of these I get overwhelmingly discouraged about my job prospects.

When the store I worked at back in 2001 was bought out, as part of the "due diligence", I had to take a similar test to this.

I thought it was a load of BS - The best thing to do is lie like hell on it and beat them at their own game.

In retail, if you show yourself to be reliable and dedicated, your gonna have a lot more push than any manager will ever admit to.

Believe me, I've been in arguments with my managers where things degraded into a shouting match and I never got fired.

Well this will help next time I have to take one of the stupid tests

I applied a temp agency many years ago. The girl working there showed me how to take these tests. There are only 2 answers to every question either you "Strongly Agree" or you "Strongly Disagree" any other answer causes that qquestion to not be counted and lower you score keeping you from being hired. Stupid I know, but that is how the test is set up.

I tried applying for Best Buy using the answers above but failed the assessment.

Disappointing, seeing the answers are all word-for-word.

What gives? Have they changed the answers?

I have never had a single interview from any of the hundreds of unicru applications I've filled out. I don't know why.

I've never gotten an interview after taking one of these either... They're a load of **** anyway.

I agree with your assessment. The Unicru Test is specifically designed to weed out people like us. Our "remarkable honesty", an Aspergian character trait, guarantees a failing score on the test. The only way to pass this test is to lie...and I am not a very good liar.

I haven't filled out a unicru application in years, but in retrospect I believe the type of question that always got me is the one that goes something like this: "If you saw a fellow employee steal $20 from the cash register and you knew she was a single mother with financial difficulties, would you inform management of the theft?"

That is the kind of situation that breeds my love-hate relationship with rules. But despite that I still can't lie, no I wouldn't tell management.

It seems neither honesty, nor flexibility with rules as applied to the plight of poor single mothers, are virtues in employment.

The only way for anyone, especially an Aspergian, to pass the Unicru test is to cheat on the test. Money means nothing to me if I can't maintain my own integrity. I always believed that honesty is the only policy.

I find it funny that they quote lowes as using it to promote a streamlined process. Here is how it went for me

Filled out the test online

got called in

general interview bs

over to a computer to fill out another online personality test (umm what?)

sit for 20-30 minutes

take it again! (on the computer)

sit some more

out comes the scantron! (what is this, junior high?)

We got handed a paper test, consisting of a scantron (oh lord) and a question key

After filling out that lengthy piece of junk, it's faxed off to some random hole in the ground, I mean company.

at this point, I had to desperately use the bathroom, so I left and came back. barely when I came back, I bumped into the hr person and got told "we are keeping you on file, blah blah"

It was probably a good 2 hour (or more) waste of my time there. Was it a frog in the pot syndrome? (keep turning the heat up and see who stays around? maybe I "failed" the how long can you last without a bathroom test?)

I found them to be very unprofessional and annoying to deal with. about a week later, I got a card from them "sorry, but we uhh love to waste your time, and found that there are better people to hire"

No wonder why theft at corporations is so rampant... Treat people like a criminal before you even walk in the door and it isn't going to bode well

I usually have a 1% chance of being called after taking a unicru test, which is probably why I don't have a job now. For a test trying to weed out bad personalities, all they're going to get are liars who seek thrills and love to be the center of attention. Suck that these tests tend to weed out people with some disabilities; that's a lot of loyal honest hard-workers lost.

I actually managed to pass a Unicru test.

There were five of us in this group, brought on thanks to a state program which helps "disabled" people find jobs. On the Unicru test, four failed and I was the only one who passed. Remembered to check strongly agree/disagree on whatever they wanted to hear.

However, I still hate these things and have a low success rate at them.

These tests are really unfair. There are SOOO many variables that go into some of these questions that I cannot possibly simply answer "Agree" or "Disagree". Examples:

"Do you always keep your promises, no matter what?" - I mean, yeah, I try to. But what if you just really can't? What if you promise to work for someone and you break your leg and can't? Then answering "agree" or "strongly agree" would be a lie.

"You always try to win at all costs." I think everyone wants to do all they can do to win. But "at all costs"? Does this mean you'll work till the end to try to be a winner, or does this mean you're willing to do dishonest things to win?

"Many people cannot be trusted." I read that they want you to put SD on this one, but that doesn't make any sense. Define many. There are thousands of people in prison for terrible crimes, I would say there are "Many People" that fit that category, and I'm not so sure I trust them. So indeed, many people CANNOT be trusted.

They need to give you a blank spot to explain your answers or something. lol

How are they unfair? Since there are no right answers, you are free to put in the answers that you know they want without any guilt for acting unethically.
