Been fired once back in the retail days, although looking back that might have been a good thing, it forced me to find a better job out of college.
I'm a year into my new job at the small local newspaper, which I enjoy, but somehow I managed to get the mayor gunning for my job, who happens to be the paper's largest advertiser with his bank. He's threatened to cut all advertising to the paper as long as I'm here. So far my boss has my back, but once the money stops flowing in I don't know how that will go.
Seems I have an innate ability to tick people off when I'm not trying to.

I always worry about getting fired. If I don't actually get fired, usually bosses will harass me into quitting so they don't have to fire me. I feel like I have to work twice as hard as everyone else just so I know that I'll have a job the next day. Honesty definitely gets me in trouble, in addition to misunderstanding non-literal directions, poor social skills, violations of dress codes that may or may not even exist, misunderstanding non-literal or non-specific rules, etc. Most jobs have a whole host of unwritten rules regarding things they can and will fire you over, and you have to guess what they are. AS makes this harder. Dress codes are a big issue for me, because often they are unwritten, and when they are written, they are totally non-specific. I've been fired for dressing too formally or too professionally several times, mostly for wearing simple, conservative black dresses, or skirts with tops. AS takes a bad situation (where one or two people have absolute power over the hiring/firing of everyone else, with no accountability) and makes it a lot worse. The constant lack of job security and looming threat of homelessness has caused me continuous stress since I started working 13 years ago.

I've only been fired once, and that's because I stopped showing up for a job. But even still, in all the jobs I've had I've always been afraid of being fired. I'm more secure in my current job because I have a very good relationship with my boss but now I'm concerned that work will dry up and I will be fired because there's no work to do.

On the issue being replaced if I quit or was fired somebody could certainly sit in my seat and take up space in my office, but I think there are very few people who could replace me in terms of what I do.
