computer repair jobs....
my husband (an aspie) seems to have given up all hope in jobs. He's tried almost everything and now seems content with staying home all day, mostly on his computer he has been however doing ALOT of work and upgrades and rebuilding on his computer and a few other old PCs and laptops we have around the house. He has said once that he would absolutely love fixing computers for a living. But, he has no prof experience. He really has a hard time in school, but him going back is pretty slim. (Unless, it was an online program that I could help with). Does anyone have any ideas how he begin something like this? He says he would like to one day have his own business, but I know he needs to start somewhere...
not loosing hope in him
Where I live there are onling groups where people give away or exchange unwanted items. I sometimes see ads wanted for broken or old PCs or laptops where the person wants to try to mend or use for parts. "Freecycle" is one. Maybe a "wanted" ad in the local library or social centre notice board.
Recycling workshops often fit repaired PCs with Linux software to get the best from old kit.
Could he find a recycling workshop where he could volunteer?
Another option is going to a computer repair shop and asking if they have any stuff they have no use for that your husband could use to practice on. Or when a business is getting a new system fitted and has lots of old kit to get rid of.
Consider the cost of getting rid of the stuff your husband can't use- there may be regulations about how it is to be disposed of.
I have done some software installation and memory upgrades (self-taught) for aquaintances. Word of mouth could spread the news that your husband is willing to try this (on the understanding that he's not officially qualified).
There are a lot of "teach yourself" videos on youtube.
There are some courses you can do online but I'm not sure how good they are. It might be better to read the manual and then sign up for the exam, eg CompTIA Certificate.
I use Techforums, Overclockers, and Tom's Hardware forums for information.
Wilders Security for security news.
I'd love to be able to fix up computers for a living, but I don't have the space to store all the parts, so I just help out when people ask me and try to learn more online.
