what kind of people understand the importance of an IT guy?
you really need to have a thick skin to do support.
iv'e done it and it ruined me twice , every time i have a interview for support my heart begins to pound when i enter the office.
i see all those guys working and talking for 40 hours a week , it makes me sick . that's why i haven't / couldn't work for years.
anxiety & depression helped with that.
My company does. Before I was hired, everyone was 40+, so they called the IT-company even for plugging in a new printer or display. XD The guy of the IT-company that are caring for us said he is so happy that at least there is now someone that is able to tell them on the phone "Inside the company the network is still running, but somehow we cant establish the connection to the server anymore, so our office-working programm isnt working right now, because of the programm files being on the server." instead of "PC dont do what I want and making strange stuff. Dont know why." I even got the admin password to update minor stuff like AcrobateReader (The IT-company did that before. ^^) or install minor programms like Filezillah for plansharing and such nonsense, before they didnt dare to give one of us the Adminpassword, because it ended in catastrophes. XD

I do. I work in a callcenter though so I am not forced to make eye contact and have the mute button for coping mechanisms. I don't think I could do it in person, to be honest.
