I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring this site! My name is Julie and I currently lead a group of 12 analysts who are all on the autism spectrum. My company, The Precisionists, Inc. (TPI) hires adults with autism and places them in long-term contracts with companies. I have the pleasure of having my team here on-site with me in Delaware, however, depending on the client, you could possibly be on their site. Either way, you have full support and help navigating this crazy, sometimes daunting arena called the "workplace." Our company is 2 years young, but growing quickly. If you are out there and WANT TO WORK, I would really like to hear from you. I came to this forum today after asking one of my top analysts "Where do I find YOU?" So I figured, maybe we could find each other...

I am sure you have questions that I would love to answer!

Nice to meet you (in advance) :)

Sometimes threads like this are posted for nefarious reasons, so members understandably report new ones asking if they seem legitimate.

The Google search on this turned up nothing of concern that I could see, it looks genuine.

I assure you, we are legitimate! Thank-you for sharing that to all on the forum.

Is it just tech jobs like every other company that claims to want to hire autistics?

Worried I’m going to get fired at work, unbelievably due to meds I can actually keep my cool at work. However there are always as*holes.

Back ground basically we have different sections and they have to give us their financials anyway they have to balance them ( we have a lot of these sections), so we are business partners with them I am to my dismay one of their business partner I am meant to help them but it means they just don’t try and pass it off on me. We fall under the same umbrella as this section so they take liberties.

Long story short I’m not allowed to journal so I asked them to clean some errors so I could investigate for them.

Their boss rang and yelled at me why wasn’t I helping them essentially I asked her what specifically would she like me to do to help them (knowing she could not say their submission but that’s what she wanted). Anyway she went on to say I hadn’t given her subordinate some print out (which I had) I fwd it to them both again and ccd my boss just saying “here that blah blah report as discussed”, 20 mins later her subordinate sent me this horrid email about how I should have explained to him what I sent in the email and that how was he meant to know as he is new and it’s all my fault because I didn’t put a correct subject heading (I just replied to his request) etc etc I mean seriously I know he can read. It’s the only thing I sent him other than normal emails today.

His boss is adamant I must help her and this guy is blaming me because he has obviously told his boss I didn’t send it and I can prove I did making the boss embrassed about her screaming rant. But not embarrassed enough to apologise.

It’s just crap. I’ll probably get in trouble for their inability to their jobs. I wrote to my boss some fluff about offering them more training and other useless crap.

But ultimately business partnering is not for me.

Also I went up earlier in the day to ensure they would meet deadline and the pathetic boy said they would and then they didn’t again!!

And he said in his email that he didn’t think my visit was any help (it wasn’t he said he was fine I left him to it) so I replied with “Interesting how one person can see something from one perspective and the other from another perspective”

Essentially a I really don’t give a f**k this ppl skills stuff is so far beyond me apparently I was too blunt in my emails... so again “interesting I enjoy hearing other ppls perspectives” I reckon if I say that crap enough they twig to f**k off and do their own work.

Argh at least I was calm super calm but these run ins does everyone have them??????

Tell me ur crappy work problems people

And do ppl think saying

Have u balance xyz yet? Because I want yo do xyz...As blunt? This is amongst other back and forths...

I mean why is it ok on messenger and not on email?

From now on that f****r is going to get the most verbous complex emails I can muster...

Anyone else have to suffer these fools?

That is what I feel makes us different. We do not hire people with autism into ONLY technology jobs. Yes, we do have those opportunities, but just because someone has autism, doesn't mean they want to sit behind a computer! We have been very successful with a manufacturing partner, for example. We have people building electronic components, performing quality control, inventory management, etc. I lead a large team that does intricate billing and call center adherence for a large electric company. Our client list is growing and as far as I am concerned, the more diverse the better.

What kind of AS-friendly adaptations has the company incorporated into its working environments?

People complain about it all being tech jobs geared towards auties/aspies, but in the uk specifically cities like London it's not really fertile ground for aspie startups or businesses that soley employ those sort of people, assuming every aspie has an affinity for numbers, analytics, programming, logic and all that. I for example am not bothered by bright lighting, invasive noises, open-plan space, i have though struggled in an office environment because I didn't use normal greeting procedures like "good morning, how are you?" that come so naturally to other people and didn't make small talk.

Ironically, I think I do just want to sit behind a computer...I like office work, but no one wants to pay me for it (I have done some volunteer office work). I just don't have an aptitude for STEM due to also having nonverbal learning disability.

Thanks! I really appreciate you sticking around to answer questions.

I had a few quick questions myself, if I may.

First of all, do you do direct job placement, or are you more of a "help with your resume" organization? For example, do you have employment specialists who go out and actively market individual job seekers? Unfortunately, my experience locally has been that almost everyone specializes in the "empower job seekers so that they can go and get their own job" model which has rarely worked well for me, so I wanted to check if this was your model too.

Second of all, what percentage of placements are not "tech jobs"? Is this a significant and/or growing area, or are your non-tech jobs essentially "token" opportunities? For example, suppose I show up and would like to be an accountant, truck driver, architect, transportation planner, tax advisor, building inspector, high school math teacher, investigative journalist, etc. and I had the basic skills and/or credentials necessary to qualify for such a role (e.g. degrees, professional licensure, etc.)? Would you be more likely to say "Well, it's either tech or work on an assembly line" or would you be able to accommodate such a goal?

Third, do you offer non-entry-level jobs? In my experience, supervisory and management positions tend to be held by people who are "smooth talking" but ultimately have low morals and empathy, and I'm strongly suspecting that a few highly educated, highly trained, or experienced persons with Autism could really make a difference there. Is this something that you do, or can do?

Does your company do any business on the west coat, or is it all local to Delaware only?

Oh, one more question (sorry)!

What is your funding model for services? Do you require that someone already has employment-related disability funding such as Ticket to Work or Vocational Rehabilitation? If someone doesn't have such a funding source (or has the "wrong" funding source), but looks able to work, do they pay out of pocket for services (e.g. $X per hour, $Y per placement, etc.)? Are services instead funded through fees charged to employers, etc., such that all that job seekers need to provide are skills and ambition?

Thanks!

These are all great questions! We currently employ over 100 people in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Orleans and now Phoenix. The are all TPI employees. Where we have not directly marketed specific people, that may be something we could do if a client has a specific need and we have you in our database. The percentage of jobs that are not technical depends on how you would define technical, but I would say approximately 20%. Our jobs are not just entry-level. There are instances if you have a technical background and you have managed people before - great - we have project leader positions that open up if we have a larger number of people needed for a particular contract. I realize all of this is very vague, but when you have a growing company like us - we are willing to try new avenues and new areas. That is why if you live somewhere where we are not, I would just say keep checking in...you never know. Best thing to do is go to our website and fill out a candidate interest form.

In other words, "We do not cover your area, but please give us your personal data anyway".
