Can i really claim disability benefits for autism, if im barely able to work? Or is this nearly impossible if you only have autism? Is ot a good idea to claim disability benefots if you can, and if you have reason to do so? Or is this a bad idea, even if i cannot really work? What change do i have that i get disability benefits for autism? Im only 19, but i dropped out of school several times. That means i had problems keeping up in school already. If school was too hard for me, how am i able to work full time? What do you think should i do?

https://www.cbpp.org/research/social-se ... sabilities

President Trump and House Republicans have proposed cutting Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for poor children with disabilities, which would harm some of America’s most vulnerable children and their families. The Trump proposal would cut SSI by more than $8 billion over the next decade, shrinking benefits for roughly a quarter of a million children with disabilities by between 38 and 66 percent.

This is just a proposal. Tomorrow's election will be a huge factor in whether or not they can make this reality.

Disability pension

Base pension: The insured must be assessed with a disability of least 40% and have made contributions in each year since age 21.

Partial pension: Must have at least three years of contributions.

Extraordinary pension: Paid to Swiss nationals who do not meet the required minimum contribution period for the disability base pension.

Base pensions are payable abroad to Swiss nationals and under international agreement.

Mandatory occupational pension: The insured must be assessed with a disability of at least 40%.

Occupational pensions are paid abroad (regardless of nationality).

If you're in Switzerland you'll have to find out what your country's policies are on healthcare/ mental health / disability grants, as the situation differs from country to country.

I would certainly imagine you can, as most European countries have well developed social support systems.

Where I live, a recommendation from a qualified psychiatrist was the key.

The cutting of benefits is no surprise. The President does things that will benefit him personally. He has businesses that need unskilled workers. The biggest pool of such workers available to him is people on SSI and SSDI. The more typical option of loosening immigration won't work for him, as cutting immigration is part of his political strategy.

Countries are considering basic income, but this isn't going to happen in the USA with its current administration.

It is possible to get disability benefits with autism, though it will probably involve a detailed evaluation of the specific traits that you have that prevent you from working, eg. meltdowns, anxiety, problems with communication, manual dexterity etc. The process probably will include some consultations with doctors and psychiatrists/psychologists, and might depending on the situation some type of work testing to find out how much/how effective you would be in a work situation. If it shows a low ability to handle work then its likely you could get disability, though if you are showed to have a moderate ability to work perhaps you would get assistance with placement at a part time job with accomodations for your autism.
