The only thing that has worked for me so far is pushing carts.

It does not have a lot of social interaction or fast mental processing, like running a cash register- consider this job if that's what you're looking for.

It's around minimum wage or a bit higher, it's pretty physical, you need steel toed shoes and and something neon so cars will see you, you have to eat enough and drink a lot of water and get enough salt, you have to be very careful if it gets really hot, I drunk water every fifteen minutes and put ice in my hat and dumped water over my head every fifteen minutes during a heat wave. I haven't done it in the snow. I suspect it's very difficult.

My first job was at Home Depot like warehouse retailer. I was a cashier but I eventually asked to be moved to cart duty. Everyone (including the manager) thought it was a joke and it was literally the lowest position in the store but when they put me on cart duty I absolutely loved it! I wasn't tied down to a register, little if any supervision, no more collapsing from exhaustion after getting home and I could really 'work my magic' and really help customers.

The only time it really sucked was when it was near freezing and raining. One Saturday I was the only cart pusher and went through 2 jackets, 3 boots and 8(! !) pairs of gloves and socks. Winter wasn't that bad I rather enjoying being out in the snow.

Only thing I hated when I pushed carts was a stupid micro manager boss. Also they may overburden you as well and expect 500% from you. Hoping I can eventually work towards something more a tune to me but we shall see. Office work is not as bad.

I'm currently employed doing this. Of the numerous jobs I've worked it seems to be one of the best fitting jobs and the one I've held down the longest.

The job is mindless enough that I can retreat into my own head space do it on autopilot and, as mentioned before, customer interaction is minimal.

I pushed carts at two of the 3 jobs I had. Pushing carts was only a small part of my job thou. I did floor-cleaning at WalMart for two years. It was a Super WalMart so it was open 24/7 & dedicated cart pushers weren't there at night. My department worked overnight & we usually got the carts 1ce a night a couple hours before the end of our shift. We got a machine after a while that pushed carts & that was nice but a tad tricky to learn & not everyone in my department knew how to run it but a lot of us including me did. The next job I had was doing custodial stuff at a sporting goods store & getting the carts was one of my duties. I didn't mind pushing carts too much except I'm very nearsighted even with glasses so I didn't like getting the carts when traffic was busy & when it rained I couldn't see out of my glasses. Glasses don't have windshield wipers like cars do & they can also get foggy when 1st going outside if it's cold out so I wouldn't advise this job for someone who wears glasses.

That sounds interesting. Pushing carts in the middle of the night sounds lovely to me. I like the way you type.

I never considered it, but it does seem doable and low stress. Physical stamina might be an issue though.
