@Fnord

Sorry for the confusion, I don't mean for this WP forum I mean as someones professional occupation.

Then you should be asking “Are any members of WP professional System Administrators?”

I am a Data Scientist. I do a lot of sysadmin tasks though. Specifically in regard to configuring servers and databases, and of course running AD. However, the sysadmin work is akin to installing the plumbing under a house. Once it is done nobody ever wants to look at it or think about it, and you get little credit for it (but plenty of attention when something ceases to work correctly).

I find Data Science a bit more interesting, especially multivariate analysis.

Not sure if this is the context that you were seeking, other than the boolean query of "any sysadmins here?"

@Perspicacity

Do you use any shell automation scripts as part of your job?

Yes I use a lot of scripts: JSON, Powershell, VBS, VBA, bash, even DOS.

Mostly to generate reports for managers who want data in human-readable format.

I also use a lot of scripts to run the network: bash scripting to run Apache, Powershell and DOS to run the windows network for AD and for connecting to local computers.

I can script a lot of my work functions so I don't have to work too much, I can work from home and have the system do my work for me.
