After almost two years of endless applications and interviews, I finally have a job.

If that isn't worth celebrating, I don't know what is.

Congratulations, Lost_dragon! :)

That is indeed a while to not have the chance at obtaining a job.

What kind of job?

How are your coworkers getting along with you?

How much do you earn?

Retail. Gardening supplies and furniture.

We get along fairly well so far. I feel like I can relax and be myself around my co-workers (whilst still being professional of course). It's a nice change of pace. My last workplace was quite hostile.

...Peanuts. It's a temporary Christmas job so I'll be back searching again in the new year unless they decide to keep me on. At least the Job centre will get off my back a little for now.

2 years of searching only to find a temporary Christmas job? I appreciate your optimism in the opening post, but damn, this seems a little disappointing?

Good to hear that you can relax in your job and that it isn't a hostile environment.
Many of us make the mistake of doing too much work instead of observing their co-workers to see how much work is required. Doing too work much often triggers hostility.

This can be a good opportunity to get a more permanent job.

The last couple of years have been rough, to say the least. I was seriously starting to think I was unemployable. My current situation isn't where I'd hoped to be, however, I'm happy that it'll force me into a more stable routine. That I have more of a reason to leave the house regularly. Which sounds dire, I know, but any progress seems worth celebrating at this point.

It was frustrating really because I was getting the interviews - sometimes three in a week, usually at least one a week - but I was either overqualified or underqualified or someone's nephew got the job. It just never worked out even though I was constantly putting the effort in. There were interviews that outright told me that they weren't actually hiring but that I should try again in a couple of months. Which annoyed me because I'd spent all that time preparing for something that wasn't even real!

I hate the job market. I really do. However, I'm glad that I have something to fill the gap on my CV and that this job will give me some structure in my life and that I'll be less prone to depression naps. It'll also give me more of an opportunity to really hone in on my portfolio and a chance to take a small break from endlessly applying. I almost walked out on an interview once it was so frustrating.

Something I've noticed is that people seem to think that I'm younger than I am and that this might be negatively impacting me. I want to focus on finding ways to look my age and not come across as an awkwardly lost teenager. Of course, if people actually read my CV, then they could figure out I'm not some eighteen year old but I do get the impression that people are going off my looks alone sometimes.

I'm hoping that this job will be the final leg up that I need to finally land something more permanent. I need to focus now on taking care of myself, perfecting my portfolio and looking my age.

Way to go Lost_dragon! Well done. The temporary nature of the job is fine. You sound like you're in the right mindset about it. It's a stepping stone to something better.
