how many are you guys work as medical doctor
In terms of dealing with people constantly, it's very challenging to say the least. After so many years of doing it, I have learned how to do it appropriately, but it hasn't been easy. It's been a lot of trial and error. It helped that the first place I worked at was a county hospital that didn't care about customer service.
My favorite patients are comatose
You mean, I, as an autistic, cannot be a pharmacist or a medical doctor? Oh my, there goes my dream of being a healthcare worker... Sad.
Btw... all angels are angels to me, so what if they are weird or have autism?
Fight the system. Having AS doesn't mean you aren't healthy it just means you think differently. Social norms are a bunch of silly everchanging nonsense anyway. The most popular doctor on TV Dr. House shows signs of AS.
Great. I am now inspired to beat the system, but I need to get past community college first,
Thanks anyway!

No, I think you misunderstood my post. I am not saying you cannot be a healthcare professional, I am saying you cannot tell anybody you are autistic if you are, and that it may be more difficult than other professions.

So I have to be an Aspie that does not disclose my own conditions? Unfortunately, I did disclose my conditions to various organizations... Sigh. I told people I AM autistic!

Well i`m still a med student and hope to become a doctor one day. I actually went into this knowing about my limitations and thought that depending on the field/specialistation it doesn`t have to be a problem at all. I`ve had no problems communicating with patients yet, i think mainly because we more or less see new people each time so there is no long term relationship to be made. It`s strictly professional patient - student/doctor relation, which i`m comfortable with. I`d say it`s also important to note patients come to us seeking for help so in start they need to somewhat trust you, to open up and explain what brought them here along with any relevant information. After that it`s like problem-solving with the data you have and trying to think of a solution and treatment, see results ... At least thats how i take it - as a case.
Now as i said i don`t really have any long term experience, but i believe in the right fields AS is definitely not a disability, even more i would say it can be an advantage as we tend to work logically without too much emotional involvement.
I also unfortunately have to agree that not disclosing is probably the best option. The society is still very much affraid of anything different especially regarding mental health. Sadly healthcare workers even with all their knowledge about it are no different.

Dude relax man, there is a lot of successful AS people in lucrative professions. Just what you need to is be good at handling the social retrospects of your career and you can have the potential of being a leader in your chosen profession/field. I even saw a TV show about a successful Aspie Surgery MD, so don't worry dude, if you are really high functioning, meaning that you have the grades as well as the social skills, go for your dreams and don't let anyone stop you, that is all I can say.

You are totally right about what you just said, AS is definitely not a disability at all, you are just a person that has a little social differences, and in some cases you can even succeed in lucrative professions. I mean I am starting to become a studyholic nowadays when it comes to school, I like to read all kinds of interesting forms of literature and I can get along with practically anyone. It is not a disability. AS is not like Mental Retardation, Down Syndrome, or Schizophrenia. Some of we Aspies, if we choose to learn how be intergrated to NT-like status, we can do good things in our communities and contribute to society in a good way (lets not forget that Bill Gates has AS). We can do even bigger things than some NTs out there. Just learn the cues of surviving in modern day society and you will just do fine and enjoy life to the fullest.
