That doesn't sound so stupid. I only drink orange juice squeezed from the free-rolling oranges of the Amazon. If you call PETO(People for the Ethical Treatment of Oranges), they'll be glad to tell you all about the abuses committed by orange growers on those poor captive oranges.

Well you could probably argue that orange trees generally are free range - they're not confined to tiny cages anyway.

I suppose those customers mean "organic" food? (i.e.: no genetic engineering or "artificial" fertilisers, pesticides, preservatives, etc. "Organic", as if everyone else eats inorganic food? Seriously, it does make some sense for those people who are hypersensitive or allergic to certain chemicals, I suppose, while it's a standard for those neurotics with an incapacitating phobia of "deadly food impurities.")

If not that, I don't know what they were thinking of, beyond that previously mentioned lovely image of herds of free-range oranges grazing peacefully on the prairie...

Great idea for a thread! I have a couple of stories from the other day.

I work in a group home and my coworker and I took one of the residents out for the day. We had our van parked on the street (at our destination) - along the curb parallel parking style. Just as we were about to leave, someone parked in the spot in front of us.
Coworker: Oh no! Now how am I going to get out?
Me: Huh?
Coworker: That car - he's boxing me in!
I'm thinking yeah, he's getting close, not leaving us much room to manouver and our van is big, that kinda sucks. But...
Me: Isn't the parking spot behind us empty?
Coworker: Yeah
Me: ...so you can back up to give yourself room to get out.
Coworker hesitantly: Well yeah, but...
I'm thinking "But what? Put it in reverse and go!" Maybe she's scared of backing the van up? Eventually we made it out of the spot.

Another one later that same day...
I was at home... I was supposed to be working the next day, but it turned out that it was gonna be a really quiet day and I wouldn't be needed so my shift for that next day had been cancelled. (My coworker was going to be there and she could easily handle everything by herself.) Another coworker phoned me at home to say that I'd be needed after all. Originally Arlene was going to have 4 people home in the morning and they all needed to be driven to their various work/day program locations at 8:30am. We do that all the time. The problem now? Jean's work schedule changed so we couldn't drop her off til 9:00. So my coworker was thinking that Arlene's gonna be out taking the other 3 to work and Jean will be home alone for that 1/2 hour - that's why they needed me to be there so Jean wouldn't be alone. I told her "Arlene can take Jean with her when she takes everyone else! She doesn't need to wait at home, she can go along for the ride and get dropped off at work at 9." The obvious solution but no one else thought of that, they had to phone me about it. Sometimes I really wonder about some of my coworkers.

Me: [on phone] "Thank you for calling our 24-hour store. How may I help you?"
Customer: "What time do you close?"

Our bathrooms have a key-code lock on the outside of the doors, and I've had 2 people ask me if they'll be able to get back out again. I'm tempted to say "Not until the bathroom is spotlessly clean!"
