I am self employed doing mainly electronics design and programming but with some engineering and woodworking machine repairs just to add a bit of variety...

I work part-time as an information desk/receptionist for all of the student services departments at a college campus.

Technically, I suppose it's a people-oriented job, but the questions are very repetitive, so after the first week, practically everything is near-scripted. The questions are also pretty basic, so at most, I usually only see people for around a minute at a time--and, between questions, I work on my homework for class (I go to school at a nearby university). Outside of work, people have commented that I'm not much of a "people person," but I'm always genuinely happy when someone comes up to my desk at work; their question is usually interrupting some incredibly boring homework assignment, so I've never needed to fake being cheerful.

The interview was also pretty Aspie-friendly: they handed me a student handbook with a list of questions and gave me five minutes to answer as many as I could. The interviewers were probably supposed to ask me some other job-related questions, too, but I have a fairly eccentric program of study (which was listed on my resume), so they ended up just asking me questions about obscure academic topics, instead.

I am female and an engineer. I do atmospheric modeling with a small group of very bright people. I like it and feel lucky.

I'm an assistant at an after school tutoring program and I'm selling tickets in a box office until my temp assignment in data entry begins.

I work in DTP (desktop publishing), mainly producing teaching materials for a huge software company. I work with audio and video in more than 6 different languages.
If I'm not working in production, I also coordinate co-workers or I train new staff (this is the part I don't particularly enjoy.. (explaining the same things all over again).
Another part of my job is reviewing all kinds of documents. I check them for linguistic mistakes, layout errors, and sometimes also technical content or function. I like that because I can be meticulous while getting paid for it. yay.

I currently work at a petrol station. I dread going to work, but once I'm there I don't mind it too much. It's very draining, 'cos I have to be sociable, and there's so many people who don't know what pump they're at. I'm currently studying to be a forensic scientist, though, so hopefully in the next few years I'll be working in a lab environment, just doing my thing.

i do survies over the phone. almost no one wants to answer, and when they do they comment that i sound like a machine and they were sure at first i was one. i ask a question, a very simple one, like "would you recommend your bank to a friend?" and the person asks, "WHAAAT, what, what?" in that screeching voice that gets on my nerves. people act like they're deaf.
the job is sooooo annoying. i hate it. people scream at me over the phone if they dont like the questions or think they repeat themselves, but i didnt invent the damn questions.
i have no privacy, since there are people on my right and left. we sit in rows, and there's another one behind me and one more in front of me.
i dial non stop and the supervisors tell me i dont get enough survies done, but that's because people won't answer and it's not my fault. i've heard others beg and say over the phone, "please help me. i need the money, i need the job. i'm a student." but i can't bring myself to do it.
i've heard the supervisor holler once, "Get those survies. do whatever you can to find them. beg. remember people do you a favor by answering."
i hate my job.

I am a dishwasher at an old folks home. I loved it at first but not as much now. I am also trying to join the national guard as a combat engineer.

Wow! :( I struggle to imagine how anyone can do that job, let alone an Aspie! On the (mercifully rare) occasions I've had people call me to do a survey they sounded like machines, too. In one case I actually thought for at least 10 seconds or so that it was a recording, but it turned out to be a real person. So it's probably more the nature of the job than you.

I hope every company on the planet that does phone surveys goes out of business when people finally realise they don't owe them any answers. But I also hope you find yourself a better job - preferably before that. :) Could you use that experience to move into some kind of a customer service/support role where at least people actually want to talk to you?

if every phone surveys company goes out of business, how will you get answers to your questions? suppose you want to know how many people like a certain brand of water/cellular phone/car/whatever and therefore know which one is the best so you should buy it? and the hospital better their services when people complain, too.
anyway, this is a temporary job, but i have no intention into moving to a customer service job, where people may want to talk to me, but i'd have to talk to them on the phone all day. at least, with the survies, a lot of numbers i dial dont answer, so i daydream and get paid to do it. (who says you have to daydream for free? i make plans for the future and think about my nieces and whatever and that's what i get paid to do). you dont do that on a customer service job. people will talk your ear off, constantly.
i won't be keeping this job long. perhaps just a few more months.

Network Engineer with an emphasis on VoIP for a company that's getting ready to tank, hard.

It would be nice if we didn't have f'ing morons for customers.
Some guy called in this morning asking help how to use an iPad. :wall:

Grumble.

I'm a janitor. I like it and it's very repetitive and I do the same thing everyday. Very calming and relaxing. Plus I get free donuts there if they have any left. They even save some for me sometimes.

I'm a part-time cashier. At first it was like pulling teeth trying to initiate small talk with total strangers. Now, I'm like one of those wind-up dolls with a witty response to anything a customer says. (I sat down and brain-stormed scripts, once.) I enjoy it because the scanning and bagging is very repetitive (it's like playing Tetris, but with groceries).
