Another reason to be very, very very careful about disclosing your autism. It's a catch 22 if no Autistics disclose we will get nowhere, never mind the internal damage to ourselves. Outing themselves was a key reason the gays are where they are. They became "human" instead of freaks to a lot of people.

I don't use my real name online so they wouldn't find anything about me and my mother doesn't even go online so they wouldn't find anything about her either.

Which is also bad because if they google your real name or your mom's if you're both looking for work, they won't call you for an interview because they think you're hidings something or don't know about the real world because they couldn't find anything about you or anything that matched what you had on your resume.

I feel the internet is becoming a necessity now than a luxury because you basically need to use it now and post online and use your real name to make it easier for getting a job. I also notice everything is going online rather it's job searching, looking up announcements for your kid's school and seeing what is for lunch or breakfast there since they don't use paper anymore to print them on, and now you need it for school I hear. Thank god there are still things you can do without the internet like looking in the newspaper for job seeking ads, phone books.

I don't think it would be an issue with crummy unskilled minimum wage or near minimum wage jobs which is all we would ever be able to get. I don't think they would do that if you were going to work in fast food or as a cleaner.

I don't even have anything to put on a resume so there would be nothing to find.

It is annoying how they want you to apply online though. My mother was going to apply somewhere and didn't bother because you had to do it online. She would have had to get an e-mail address and then make an account on their site and the job she wanted wasn't even listed in the openings. I guess she'll try to stick with her current job for the few more years she has to go until she can retire.

Lol googling my name often results in finding Pron Stars lol.

I don't really care if an employer is able to track me down on the Internet... You gonna find some weird stuff. :)

Perhaps my brutally honest and secret online second life might as well be known , worts and all ;)

"Ah PD, you've got an excellent CV, by the way we know you're a Gaming Bisexual Autistic Furry IT Genius who has Headmates so nope, no job for you"' lolllol Would make my day if I'm faced with that.

Best thing about this... Even if people has multiple identities online... Everything can be traced if that much effort was done.

I can understand googling someone to see if anything bad coming up but nothing should be a good thing.

I don't use my real name online. When I need to find a job I'll make a linkedin account with my real name.

yeah, this is why you create a "fake" online profile with FB or something and have it set so that anyone can see it. Its called "dopeing" when you fill a system with either fake information or information that you specifically want people to see and believe. You could also call this old school propaganda, public opinion and personal PR.

Make a profile with your self doing cool things. For example, if you want to get a job as a computer programer, make a post about how you are pulling "another all nighter to squapsh some bugs oh mer gersh! I haff such amazing werk ethik!"

This tactic on the part of employers leaves them extremely vulnerable to being misled my potnetial employees, I suggest that everyone takes as much advantage of it as they can.

this expectation is somewhat field-dependent. i think you have to decide if it's a necessary evil you can put up with, or if it's time to get out of white-collar work. personally, i got out of white-collar work. for exactly this kind of problem - it's just not an area where i can succeed because i am such a poor fit and so unhappy doing it, even though my entire skill-set is office-based.
