The beginning of the production lines are not all that cold. The packing end of the lines and storage areas are below freezing. I usually work in the warmer areas but it is a blessing having the freezers in the summer! That is the other great thing about the job.

I drove forklift for a while at the grocrey store I work in.

I was the only one who was able to master getting pallets off and on the truck with out jolting them when going over the dock plate.

I sell men's clothes as my regular job. Sometimes I am fortunate to tutor Latin or German, and I get the occasional translation job.

I am not fond of the retail environment, but there's not much in my area. Best job I had (except for a couple of recent high-paying translation jobs) was as a substitute Latin teacher.

Wow. A lot of us work in grocery stores. I'm surprised. I find it to be overwhelming at times.

I work in the deli/bakery of a grocery store. If I'm lucky, I get to decorate cakes. It's a good job and my boss likes me, but I'd like to go into an art or graphics field eventually.

Absolute_Zero - You sound like you love your job. The jobs I've done (shop worker, creche assistant and bouncer) I was crap at and hated. I know the focused/relaxed feeling you're talking about, but I only get that from reading stuff or playing games. It would be nice if I could find something I was really good at.

Right now I'm working on my own business idea, but it's not going very well. Depression constantly gets in the way and keeping track of everything is a pain, especially since I switch off every other week and lose track of everything. I'm just coming out of a bad week and am having to go through my notes (I keep a pile of A4 printer paper that I scribble on as a sort of backup mid-term memory, since mine is rubbish) to get back to where I was before.

My main job is at the local computer club as Secondary Technical Operations Manager and Training Instructor. And yes, becuz we're relatively small, i though of that first title myself 8)7 But i get a nice payment and excellent royalties (even complete obsolete computers that are not older then 2.5 years). Most of my time i sit in the school that houses us and upgrade the systems or improve the network design. I can drop in (and get payed) almost anytime i want.

Also, i have a small job (2 mornings a week) as a volunteer at the local authorities, to help maintaining our special public nature gardens with rare plants and herbs (and no, those aren't meant to be tidy at all).

I also have a small buisiness which locally delivers products from shops to customers who have a busy life, and rarely also mail.

That's about it.

Or to customers who really don't like shops? ;)

Um... not employed. I don't really have any credentials or a career. Plus I'm kind of slow, so keep getting laid off from fast paced jobs. Are there any jobs that are not fast paced? I really could use a job; I don't have enough money to pay for school, or health insurance or anything. I also depend 100% on the person I'm living with right now, and that's scary because she could die some day, and then where would I be? At least rent I'd like to be able to contribute...

Lately I've been trying to focus on school, by attending a cheap community college, but I need to move out of this valley because my allergies are killing me. I haven't been able to find any accessible school not in this stupid valley though. I need to go to a 4 year school, since nothing I'm good at is anything more than worthless with just an AA degree. If I can even take classes at all, what with not being able to follow a schedule. Oy... and I better go take some St. John's Wort before I complain everybody into next week.

Here in Holland, if you want a slow nice job you can work at the local authorities as gardener or something. It's nice work, if it's raining you're off duty (altough i like to continue to work then), the payment is good, and you always get the chance to increase your abilities by following practical courses. The only reason i don't get paid is because i make enough money with my other jobs, and i consider it a honour to work for the community.

<Is jealous of your culture>

Here, you'd just get pissed of when your hard, voluntary work got messed up by neds and you'd spend the whole time cleaning up broken buckfast bottles (a sort of fortified, sweetened cider or wine for young people who want to get drunk) and tennents lager cans. Also, forget about having park furniture. They can set fire to anything.

Here we distribute the cleaning work among volunteers (there are enough of them even among paid personnel) so we only have to clean 2 hours per week per person. And the're is always different work if you get fed up with what you're currently doing. When you feel good again, you can continue with your previous job.

We sometimes have fires here, but not very regular. And in the case we have one, we are somehow in most cases able to trace who started it.

Maybe they should start selling Buckfast in blue plastic bottles, like other chav favourites (White Lightning etc)... doesn't make a good weapon, and as its flammable they can torch it afterwards...

I'm about as geek as it gets without working in IT or computers. I'm a TV guy - recording shows from satellite, playing them back on tape, and making sure they look and sound good. Watching TV at work rocks! When there's something good on, that is. Great feeling of power (I really do control the horizontal!), not so great money. And when you goof, EVERYBODY sees it.

I do radio once in a while for a station I've been on for about 7 years. Mega fun, but I have to get up mega early.

To fill out my schedule I write catalog entries for a video and photo equipment store. Got real lucky finding this job - the company's huge and very well respected among professionals. I'm told I'm one of their better writers. I get to deal with a great staff, I make decent money, and did I mention I do it at home? Only tough things are time management and dealing with companies that don't want to spill about their equipment. I can show you some of what I do - just drop me a message and I'll drop you some links.

I work for a charity that runs services for people with various social needs - mental health, learning disability, drug and alcohol issues etc. I'm part of Quality which means we try to help people make the services better and my particular job is called service user involvement which means setting up ways for our service users to have an influence on the way services are run. This means I run a lot of meetings, do presentatioons etc and generally try and get people motivated to have some interest in the way their services are run. My remit is our mental health and learning disability services which means severe and enduring schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, personality disorder and profound and multiple learning disability. I love working with the client group but I don't really enjoy the whole going to work thing so my plan is to not but we'll see. The best thing I've done recently was setting up a project with a local theatre company - we created a show from scratch working with our services users to create something that communicated stuff about their lives and we put it on at a theatre in Manchester. It was really cool and went down really well.
