I'm sorry you lost your job, I lost my job last week too. I had only been with them for 2 months and the boss told me it wasn't working out and I don't have all the skills he needs. So I feel what you feel. I don't feel worthless though, it was only one employer and there are others out there. No on else can say you are worthless, only you can know what you are capable of.

I am going to try different things and hopefully will get by.

Yup, I lost my job last week for personality/miscommunication issues with my new-ish manager. I don't think anyone else there had any issues with me but I really wouldn't know as I don't notice these things until I'm getting yelled at. I think my only way to survive is to not get comfortable around people and just always be over polite. Sometimes I forget this and get too comfortable and make jokes that apparently not everyone "gets" and this is when I get in trouble. Sometimes I think I'm just destined to be in short-lived situations...relationships and jobs not lasting because I'll inevitably do something wrong that I'm clueless about. Usually, when the realization comes that some NT thinks I'm a jerk I get really upset. This manager was a bully so I didn't get upset that she thought I was being insubordinate or whatever her problem was with me.

Do we have any legal protection from getting fired for these "personality" issues? We should get warnings or something to make us aware there is an issue before they just fire us. It comes as a surprise and I don't think they realize we don't know there's an issue.

I wish this isn't so:

But, in the US, unless you have a union contract which states otherwise, one could be fired for ANY reason. This is called "employment at will."

I don't like this state of affairs one bit, by the way.

Have you applied for Unemployment yet?

I have been let go from lots of jobs. I'm an NT (with other issues). But, the way I see it is if the job wasn't enjoyable in the first place, it's probably better for your mental health anyway. I say get your unemployment and just look for something better. The Holidays are upon us so even a seasonal job can carry you through as you look for something permanent. I wish you all the luck and happiness in the world.
