Has anyone been in a vocational Rehab program before?
Hi below is what I have said in other threads about this subject
First let me just say I have gone through vocational rehabilitation and got a good job from it and no you don't have to show up in work clothes
Couple things here to point out most counselor are government workers who really do not care about you. Thing is since our invisible disorder takes awhile for many to see most counselor who be less likely to help you. The biggest thing to note is you CANNOT expect them to help you. What you need to know is going in what they can do to help you and letting them know how you want to go otherwise they don't care if you get a minimum wage gig.
They don't job search for you and you don't want more education cause its just a moneypit anyways. Like I said earlier in this post you have to know what they can do for you. My biggest recommend would be State jobs since you can make entry level 3k monthly coming in the door. You want to find out how that works applying for state jobs and ask if you get preferance (You should).
Also note it takes months to get a government job i got a letter in the mail thinking it was a ticket but no it was an interview with my salary posted on it. I now have my own office, fridge its nice.

I was in vocational rehab for about seven years. It was with a program called DORS here in Maryland. I've decided to call it quits this year because I felt like they were going to take me in a direction I didn't wanna go. I've already been down that route before when they paid for part of my education in regards to a medical billing and coding certificate. I never finished this program because I was just doing what others wanted me to do. Before that, I had a two-month job at a hospital courtesy of DORS and VSP where I was paid $7.25/hour. After that, I had even less luck trying to look for a job through this agency called JCS (Jewish Community Services), which was a partner with DORS. Didn't stay with them long so I quit getting their services and tried to "get an education" so I had a "better chance of landing a job." Notice the quotation marks.
With that being said, there were some good things that came out of this. I started a bank account with my first job and was able to save a good portion of the money I made while it lasted. Now, I'm still trying to save money by earning a little extra here and there online just to stay afloat. I just wished I didn't sign up for that pesky internet service Cricket (they really sucked btw). I also got to do their assessments between the middle of my junior year in high school until about right after graduation with the two-week assessment around June 2010. At least I got to see where I stood. I always did bad on their math tests even though I passed all my math classes each year with at least a D. LOL. But, in the end, it just got me next to nothing. I proposed trying to look for a job again with my counselor before I wrote that letter asking her to close out my case. Now, I gotta start something new. DORS is in my past now. I haven't heard from my ex-counselor since August so I assume she got my letter and heeded my request. As someone else has already said, these places don't really prepare you for employment. No one even told me early on that there was with this unwritten rule about having your first job while still in high school (at least in this economy). In fact, when I went to VSP and JCS, they told me how hard it was gonna be to get a job because of my lack of experience. And I'm like, "What? I'm only 18?! !" School alone didn't prepare me for employment and neither did they when I think about it. Those two months at that hospital were all for nothing and that's a shame.
But, I'm moving on.

I don't have any experience with it yet, but I was going to give them a call today. I am currently on SSI but I am doing a bit better and thus can certainly probably at least work some part time hours at least. But yeah basically I have no idea where to start and so I figure VR could perhaps help with that some.
