I'm one of the lucky ones who got a job in my special interest. :D I saved a lot of money because I enjoyed doing my work and didn't have to spend a lot on entertainment. They would also send me on business travel and let me stay a few extra days so I could do my vacations really cheaply. I've also learned to fix almost everything in my house, so I save a lot of money that way.

Perhaps you need to seek medical advice for your depression first before seeking work, as a condition of depression causes anxiety and hopelessness, which makes you unable to see any of the positive input people are writing on this thread.

Don't think too far ahead. Be content to take small steps. No one started at the top, unless they were born into royalty or a super-rich business family.

If you go to college, you have a better chance of getting a job, Fos.

It's not hopeless.

I've had a job for 38 years.

I honestly think for moderate to mild Autists the biggest issue is your circumstances. I am unemployed but I think I could have been a productive member of society if my parents hadn't been so abusive towards me and if the government hadn't isolated me by giving everyone else £30 a week but me.

The main impediment to your getting a career or even a low-end job is your negativity. And that's something you can change, it's not something society has to change. It's not an employer's fault you are negative. If I were a hiring manager I'd show you the door (the exit door) about now.

If you get some in-demand skills employers will be more tolerant of your quirks, but based on your personality, I'd probably take a pass.

See a counselor - for many months.

My social anxiety keeps me from finding a job.

Every job I've had ended badly. The last one I had a mental breakdown and quit. I stayed home, shut down, and stared at the wall for hours.

I am.
I'm currently looking, have been for some months now

Any Ideas, online would be best

p.s. I got fired from my last job because the manager said and I quote "ya don't fit into the company's culture"
FACTS!, because their culture has to do with keeping up a facade and pretension and I also believe it stemmed from my outing all the mistakes and bad working practices happening because I thought I was doing the company some good. Because I cared about the actual job when nobody else seemed to.
And the boss had said verbatim during orientation..."Please tell us, ....let us know how you feel, don't be afraid to come to us... about anything" LIAR!!

Uh, I'm not a loser and I have a career/job thanks very much AND I'm autistic. I'm also in a career most autistics would avoid like the plague so I'm very proud of myself. I'm a nurse (yes a nurse with autism!), and I work in home health with children who have severe disabilities and complex medical issues. It can be stressful sometimes but I enjoy it. Would I do well working in a fast paced environment like a hospital with multiple patients to take care of? No, so I had to find an area of nursing that would be a good fit for me and make it work. It's slow paced and predictable, but there are times when I have to act quickly if a situation arises. It's a good balance for me. You have to find something that you enjoy or can at least tolerate and make it work for you.

All you do is complain and whine in your threads about not wanting to take a job that's low paying when you have no job experience. Everyone has to start somewhere, and some money is better than NO money but I guess you can't grasp that concept because you keep repeating how it's not worth your time.
