Why I couldn't work in retail
Quote:
Now I'm at a much larger shop where there are heaps of workers and volunteers so I don't get asked to go on the till any more. I work out in the back area hanging and tagging clothes which is pretty easy work. I do go out on the shop floor when I take racks of clothes out there, but that's all.
That's what I preferred doing when I was volunteering. I was fine with chatting to the other volunteers and even showing new volunteers what to do. It was great fun. But when it came to being in charge of customers on the shop floor, I just clammed up.
I did go to a different charity shop after that, and they were more understanding there and didn't make me go on the till. I was just in the back room sorting, although I sometimes got bored because we didn't get as many donations and there wasn't always a lot to do.
